Brush smoothness

It's been a while since I last used 3DCoat and I'm finding it hard to get a decent brush stroke.

I'm not doing anything much except painting on a low res. sphere, what should I be loading the mesh in as so as to avoid these jagged edges?

The attach image just used the Paint with Ellipse and the result is very crude, I don't get any better with other brush types.

It seems that you have set too low resolution of object (millions of polygones) or texture.

Set 4 millions to resolution and texture size 2048 x 2048

Thanks Andrew but it does not seem to be any better.

Here are the results from your suggestion.

Here's a comparison screen grab between LW and 3DCoat.

The black disk was done in Photoshop and looks fine in Lightwave but

it imports badly into 3DCoat.

The texture is 4500x4500 in size.

I tried saving the texture out of 3DCoat and it looked like it does on my screen grab.

So even textures done in Photoshop are being downgraded, when saving out of 3DCoat.

I think you need to set more than 4mil for better result, and a better uv-layout, auto-uv is not good at this situation.

And for better anti-aliasing effect I suggest using right first brush shape instead of the left first you used.

hope it helps,

akira.

So scaling the brush is a problem?

The left brush works great for big brushes but as you scale it down it

becomes jaggy edged.

I know this isn't the place to post this but while I'm here: I thought I would try this

in 3DCoat DX but found that while a mesh would load it isn't being displayed - 3DCoat ver. 2.10.15.

Thanks

As it was mentioned, it is better to choose other pen - not top left but top right because pen shape is used as a border. You an press 'E' and increase "Border width" to get smoother result.

Thanks, I think I've solved it, I needed to increase the smoothing amount.

I didn't realise it needed to be as high, had it in my head that 10 was the max

The image show circle and the edges are very good with the higher smoothing.

Thanks :)
