Member Kelleytoons Posted April 23, 2018 Member Report Share Posted April 23, 2018 Sorry if this is another stupid question, but I have a need to be able to fill certain areas on an object -- imagine I have a dress with arms (in the T-pose) and I want to fill with a gradient the arms separately from the rest of the dress (and then, of course, also use a gradient fill on the bottom portion of the dress). In Photoshop I can draw a selection box around any area I want to apply a gradient to and only that area is affected -- any corresponding tool or process in Coat? Carlosan
Hello Fill tool > Gradient mode is useful for you ?
Member Kelleytoons Posted April 24, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted April 24, 2018 I'm using gradient fills, but I want to do separate fills, one for the arms, and one for the lower body, and in Photoshop I'd just mask out each area and fill separately, but I don't see any way to do this in 3D Coat. Carlosan
If i understand your workflow well, you can use Layer mask
Reputable Contributor digman Posted April 24, 2018 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted April 24, 2018 You can do a two step process as well. 1.Freeze the area you want to apply the gradient to. Invert the freeze. 2. Or freeze the area you do not want effected by the gradient. Now you can apply the gradient to just those areas. At this time you can only use the adjustable Rectangle and the adjustable circle splines to apply selected areas to fill with gradient. The other splines though not grayed out do not function. Possible bug there...
Member Kelleytoons Posted April 24, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted April 24, 2018 When I read about Freezing it seems like it would be what I want, but every time I try and use it I get VERY confused (somehow it doesn't operate intuitively, at least for me). I'll watch some demos and see if I can figure it out.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted April 24, 2018 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted April 24, 2018 Regular Freezing. I was not talking about Paint Mask Layers to make it clear so their is no misunderstanding. Good place to start is at 2:55 in the video for the basic functions. ALt+F key to cycle through the different views of the freeze in the UI. I generally like to use black, my preference...
Member Kelleytoons Posted April 24, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted April 24, 2018 Yeah, that was the video I watched and I think I do have it now -- it seemed to work just fine for what I want to do. Thanks.
