Well, installing horrors \*o*/ with old v4 presets

Hi, it's certainly a sunny day outside, and here I am, hoping to use my shiny 3Dcoat 2021.

Just upgraded from V4 and, well. There was a slight case of crashing, which I reported.  The thing is though that now it only crashes.

The initial problem occurred when I first ran the newness.  It popped up as expected, but then it detected that I had previous things downloaded, it was specifically the artman pack with objects to make space-ships and what-not, and there was something else I didn't recognise that was listed as 'Toggle..' something or other.

Now when I try to load 3D coat it wont open, it just goes straight to the crash dialogue.

So how can I make it work without the crashiness?  As I say, it did it the first time until it died.  The screen was there in the background behind the request for my log in and over the top of that, the import progress that failed.

It all looked so promising.  Now I have to sit here without any joy in my life.  The sadness of a digital artist is made manifest. lol

Did you tried to clean up, delete all folder from old 3dcoat and new install?
Uninstall not deleting all folders. And presets won't work from old 3dcoat

It was a clean install. With no old folders that I could find.  Any old folders in documents I renamed as _old so they wont be read, as I always have.

It's the install of the artman pack which seems to be the problem, because I restarted and tried again with the same little dialogue popping up. I selected only artman and it crashed again at the same point.

I tried again, restarting my computer once more, restarting 3Dcoat, I told it 'No' this time and it works fine, it loaded and it's sat here now as I type, ready for polygon hefting.  It must be something in the art pack that it doesn't like which causes it to die horribly.

Yes, any old preset is inactive because new software code.

New feature added:

- Completely new folders structure.

Really streamlined and logical as it was proposed.

Almost all now is split between two folders - data and UserPrefs.

As it is logical, UserPrefs is user-created content. Data is sort of temporary stuff.

The folder in documents changed, now it is Docs/3DCoat-2021/.

Even if the folders structure is changed it is compatible with the previous one.

As soon as 3DCoat detects some files copied to the new location in Documents from the old one, it will convert the files to the new structure.

Also, if you will install 3dcpack it will be installed correctly (except presets that use old tools that are not present in the toolset).

So, to migrate from earlier version you may copy folders from old versions to Docs/3DCoat-2021 or create 3dcpack in old version and install using latest.

Thank you.  It's a shame that it doesn't detect the plug-in and check it's valid to be imported, displaying a nope! type message instead of doing what it did.

I was unaware of this until reaching this difficulty.  I'm sure that others may well have encountered a similar difficulty with auto-import before the software has even been activated with a license.

After installation, I migrated previous smart materials, brushes etc (categories separately, to avoid any issues).

I don't have any purchased materials yet.
