Javis
As we all know, proper layout of UVs is the basis of good texture work. They also can make it easier to complete your job if done correctly. If done poorly, you may be slowed down quite a bit or even lay them out from scratch. Andrew and I were talking today about UVs, so he knows what I'm talking about here. This is meant as a reminder. Here are some examples of the most amazing UV unwrapping tools in Earth (At the moment!). http://www.uvlayout.com/index.php?option=c...r&Itemid=67 I propose a comparable solution in 3DC, or better. Up to the task Andrew?
Taros
UVlayout is great. But if you are collecting more good unwrap tools, you should have a look on unfold 3d, too. http://www.polygonal-design.fr/e_unfold/
Advanced Member geo_n Posted July 30, 2009 Advanced Member Report Share Posted July 30, 2009 Related to adding to UV tools. project UV set to another mesh. I had problem here. http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?sho...amp;#entry25269 I think its possible since the theory is similar to polygon reduction tools. In lw there's plg http://homepage2.nifty.com/nif-hp/lw_plugi...abs_english.htm I can reduce polycount to almost 10% and it still retains UV. So maybe in 3dc we can extract UV info from high poly mesh to project to cleaner low poly retopo mesh.
Javis
Thanks guys for posting. I did not know of unfold 3d. Keep it up, I hope Andrew sees this soon. UVs are important to us all! geo_n, yes, that plugin for LW is great. I think soon we'll be doing most of our unwrapping in 3DC instead of another application. Right now I use PLG a lot for LW. It is good, but not great.
Javis
Unfold 3D looks very good. Watching the videos for it now.

Member sgiff Posted July 31, 2009 Member Report Share Posted July 31, 2009 If you can get around the horrible UI for UVLayout the program is pretty great.
Javis
Some more things I would like to see for UV tools: Brush relaxing Brush moving Pinning, align to U - align V - Align to local points (Select edges, first and last points determine the alignment) UV healing/stitching
