Contributor LJB Posted April 9, 2011 Contributor Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 Hmm. Im not in love like i am with the reference sketch. the body dimension is just too different. too thick, Its a good sculpt however, Head shape is good but again feels a little to full. From reference sketch i imagined a gaunter more ghostly proportioning. Sorry for my crit. keep going
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted April 9, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 Wave of Light > Thks! LJB > You're right about the sketch. To me that was just a start line but making effort to try to keep its spirit would have been fine too. The sketch is a bit cartoon like, but in fact I'd like to focus on fabric folds. I feel more comfortable with something with lot of volume. Trying to put the sketch itself in 3d (speed sculpt?) would be a good exercise. I'll see if I have enough motivation when I'm done with this different version.

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted April 23, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 Still a lot to do. Next step will be to reshape arms just like BeatKitano said (Curves-counterCurves).

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted April 29, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 29, 2011 Thanks! A little bit of work left on the trousers and feet. May add a torned cape and two curved swords. I'll try to finish this sculpt during the "golden week". Last update:

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 3, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Got an SQL problem when posting... Really don't know what's happening. Contributor LJB Posted May 3, 2011 Contributor Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 Hmmm seems we have all suffered from this SQL bug with the site, as long as things end up where we want them then i guess NP. Looking good, He's lost his ragged charm but he's gonna look the biz when he's a mesh im sure. Maybe just a little more fettling of the arm rags before hand?? Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 4, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 4, 2011 Thanks LJB. Oh yes, he lost his dirty looks. It his more kind of "Prince of persia" style now. I'll see if I can give him a special taste when painting texture. I choose the safe way for the shapes because I'd like to put bones in it and give him several poses. Just simple shapes for easier animation controls because I don't feel comfortable when it comes to animation. Had a quick baking try with the head part. Not clean enough. It is cool to have different material baked as a texture base though.

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 10, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 10, 2011 I've been trying different color schemes without finding exactly what I want. I'll use this as a base, contrast up, brighten up and put color accents on different parts:
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 14, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 So tired of this guy! But must finish it. I had troubles with what I thought was a colour setting problem in Photoshop. I don't know why but my display setting was on 59 hertz. So stupid... Awful gradations almost drove me crazy. Last update (still unsatisfied with the colour scheme):

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 21, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 21, 2011 Last update: Need to fix the normal map (feather). I'll probably keep this colour scheme though it still lacks details. Specular and swords still very wip.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 22, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2011 Fixed a few normal mapping bugs and had a try with a different lighting. Metalic parts specular is bad. May give him a pose before fixing other problems.

Advanced Member Garagarape Posted May 28, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 28, 2011 Thanks! But it is not as good as I wanted. Anyway, it is time to finish him. Now bones and rig time (this his hard...)
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted June 1, 2011 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted June 1, 2011 Can't do it right... My Maya mentor use to say: "Start learning rigging techniques by animating the clane of a fireman truck". But I was unable to listen to my master... Do someone knows about a trick to understand all at once in 20 minutes? lol. I'm gonna eat some worms.
