  1. That's what it is...you'll get that error message everytime if you don't have the full download
  2. Yes...I'm going to try it out on the new Camaro. Been planning on modeling it for a bit. I'd like to see how it works out.
  3. From the aftermath of Siggraph 09, it sounds like NVidia is trying leverage multi-GPU's for it's rendering platforms...Mental Ray and IRay. For now, only games benefit from multi-gpu's
  4. You mean the ZBrush method of "Shift-Click" away from the model to frame it up in it's nearest orthogonal view (Left, Right, Front, Top), or are you just practicing your comedy routine (don't quit the day job, BTW)?
  5. If I undestood Andrew correctly, it was STREAM support...which is ATI's equivalent to NVidia's CUDA. Crossfire is the equivalent to SLI, and I don't know how it will benefit having a second card at this point.
  6. Thanks for the update Andrew...very helpful improvements. While I'm at it, can you PLEASE enable a true "FIT IN THE VIEWPORT" function? This is one of the most basic navigation functions, and available in E-V-E-R-Y 3D application out there.........except 3DC. Can we please correct this?Maybe its a bug, cause someone mentioned that hitting the HOME key would do that. It doesn't. It just pops into some default starting position. For example....after you zoom out and examine the whole model, it's much quicker to hit the shortcut key to immediately fit the model to the viewport boundary, than it is having to manually zoom in every time. In ZBrush...it's the "F" key...same in Maya. Max, it's the "Z" key, and it has it's own icon in the UI too. The 3DConnexion SpacePilot and Explorer have quick navigation buttons (Left, Right, Front, Top and FIT). I use the FIT command (mapped to the "Z" key) every few minutes in 3ds Max, but have nothing to map it to in 3DC.
  7. I'm sorry, but if you can lock the y axis in the 3dConnexion control panel, then why did Andrew need to enable it in 3DC? Why not just tell us it can be done that way and save himself some time? Please...enlighten us on just how you lock the y axis from flopping around however it pleases when you twist the knob just to spin the model. Have you seen LJB's videos showing how frustrating it was the "old" way? You LIKE for the model to flounder around on its own? http://vimeo.com/5799753
  8. Personally, I think it's just common sense when trying to work with something like a car, that you would want to go into Photoshop and "Fill" in everything inside the silhouette, and if something like the tires (for example), is going to be obscurred/hidden in one view, it's better to just remove it in Photoshop.I think it could work great for auto's...especially for game assets. Should be able to retopo low poly and then take it into your 3D app and tweak the shapes and chamfer/fillet/bevel all the sharp edges. Looks like a Car model could be done in 1/3 of the time it would normally take. I definitely plan to test this soon.
  9. Actually, that's the way it works in other 3D Applications, like 3ds Max, Maya & Softimage. When you spin, that's all it's supposed to do. Without locking the Y axis it's totally "Willy"Nilly."I like it the way it's been done/fixed. Very precise and predictable.
  10. In these forums, you have a handful of main categories. Resources & Development is the 4th one down. The exchange Library is the last sub-category. You have to be logged in to see it (I guess it's not visible to just passersby, but members of this forum).
  11. Wow...thanks Leigh. Very helpful indeed.
  12. Welcome aboard. Make sure to check out the free assets available to you in the "3D Coat Exchange Library" in the "Resources & Development" section here.
  13. That would be sweet. If there was some way to create a LIVE link from 3DC to Max's Material Editor like you have with Combustion, you can imagine how nice it would be to see your texture painting and displacement maps update in realtime, either with the new viewport enhancements or in VRay RT or FinalRender's new IPR that comes with R3 (being shown at Siggraph).Example of the live link painting between Max and Combustion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGk_1MpxIFY
  14. Certainly not as dramatic of a release as last year.
  15. Thanks. Much appreciated. So, when is this DVD available? Early this week or toward the end of it? Got check card waiting at the ready.
  16. Agreed...nice list. Should be a Sticky somewhere. Maybe Javis or someone can set up a a forum category called "3DC Exchange," where forum members can easily find it and share things like this.
  17. My sentiments exactly. In fact, it's that element alone that gives Apple ample opportunity to poke fun at the pudgy Windows/PC geek in those commercials. Google search "disable UAC" and you'll find instructions how to do so
  18. Thanks for the explanation...this is what I was talking about. A small paragraph summary and placed either in a text document named "Beta Build Notes" or something similar, and placed at the end of the manual with each build, placed in the User Data directory in the installation, or in a Pinned thread titled "Beta Build Notes." Maybe a screen capture taken as they run final tests. I know this is likely to introduce a massive disturbance in the space-time continuum, but hey...a guy can ask, can't he? Just asking Andrew to throw us a bone...those of us who recently bought in and have yet to reach Jedi Master status in the 3DC universe No problem, Andrew....I was just making a request along those lines cause it gets so frustrating to hear the guys who have used the program for a long time to go on about how great a new tool works, and I can't even find any info on it. Thanks again for the SpacePilot/Navigator fix.....that makes navigation so much smoother.
  19. I understand what you're saying, but even in beta testing, there needs to be a more cogent explanation of a new tool than just saying on Tweeter that a feature is done....then having only the most experienced users brag about how great this tool is.I still don't see any info on the Sketch tool so many people were clamoring about. A small paragraph added to an amendment page at the very end of the manual or placed somewhere on this forum IS NOT too much to ask. Thanks for the dissertation, though. Perhaps it was a mistake for me to have jumped on board this early in development. It's actually one reason why I waited until 3 was released...
  20. Since the training is so scant compared to other programs, it's not as easy to get up and running as it would otherwise be. There's alot of unorthodox/non-industry standard ways of doing things in 3DC and that frustrates matters even more. Having new features are great, but in my opinion a "Fend for Yourself" reality isn't going to sell seats...not when there are more mature products on the market with plenty of training materials available for it. I don't have tons of time for a lot of guesswork exploration, and I'm trying my best to get up to speed through the manual and tutorials others are sharing...so for someone who is rather new to the program, it HAS to be frustrating when others talk about how cool new features are when no effort has been made to even amend the manual the slightest bit to explain where the new tools are and how to use them. As for the video capture...you're saying as they are wrapping it up they can't do a simple demonstration...seeing how the development team are the ones who know how they operate? Why can they not do a screen capture during their final tests? Is that too hard and time consuming?
