  1. By the way a basic expression support like nuke and guerilla would be more than welcome. For instance type 2*4 somewhere and it will directly provide the good result.
  2. It would probably be good to create a 3D Coat newsgroup.
  3. Thank you digman. I'm using ubuntu 10.04, 3DC 3.7.16A non Cuda , by the way i tried to make work Cuda, but unfortunately the latest Nvidia supported Cuda don't really work ,at least for voxel sculpting. By the way it's tricky and not safe to try to make it work under linux without knowing it . I would advice to don't try to make symbolic link to latest nvidia ".so", and to never remove the latest nvidia driver without being familiar to the terminal and linux administration.
  4. I was really probably wrong, but i though sparse voxel store data hierarchically (like acceleration structure for rendering octree mbhv) , so i though may be it was use at least to reduce the size of the 3dc file. A kind of where i don't paint after increasing the voxel size, will stay a the lower level. It doesn't really make sense but it's what i though.
  5. @Carlosa:Thank you to take it into account. I should add, for home sculpting and painting i'm more than happy with 3D Coat. I don't need more than what we already have, just few bug fix i guess.
  6. I don't see any voxels in 3D Coat, just a Marching Cubes onto a voxel. I don't know what would look like a Marching Cubes onto a Sparse Voxel, this is why i was not sure. I'm propbably wrong but sparse voxel is famous because it use less memories. How do you see the voxel ? there is an option for that ?sorry for my newbies question
  7. Mary: Actually we worked a lot with Mary, and not for the heavy animated geometry . We use it because we can fix painting trough the shot camera with the same depth of the plate.(camera import, float support) Even some of our matte painter begun to use it, just because the integration into the pipeline was done easily with Python. So they can import any asset and shot through a custom UI build in python that access the database and then paint onto it. So if you want 3D Coat to be well integrated you need that,by the way a lot of easy tools would be easily done by the community instead of Andrew. Mudbox: With Mudbox you can do some post animation , for the same reason FBX support . But i'm really agree that you don't need this at home, for some casual sculpting.
  8. imho , the only thing that's missing to make 3D Coat an industry standard is not the performance, i find it more than reasonable. I showed 3D Coat to one of our lead dev and he was impressed to see how it handles Voxel. It's funny cause he asked me to increase the brush size to see how 3D Coat would handle it , it was slower but still he was impressed. He just asked me if 3D Coat uses Sparse Voxel, thing that i don't know. Anyway the big things that miss to 3DCoat is first communication, marketing and better data management. To be able to import anything coming from production, and export data with ease. Camera import Float /Half support FBX or at least FBX vertex cache support Color management Script support (Python would be perfect since it's standard) This is why Mari and Mudbox is preferred over the rest. Cause these feature are indispensable to production.
  9. Thank you Polygoon, i ll send it to the support. I'm not under windows this is may be why.
  10. I just tryed another time and i can't manage to weld with the "move vertices" tool. The object is in the same groups,i attached a picture of my problem.
  11. Hello guys, I just want to know if it's a bug or if it's me. I can't merge vertices in the Retopo room, from what i read on the forum i'm just suppose to move the vertex onto another one(that's become red). There's a special stuff to do , to make it works ? Because it doesn't worked here. Cheers, Pixo
  12. Thank you Bisenberger good to know that , But my main problem is more to have access to the "Hide" tool and to hide some parts with the "E" curves. When i was modeling , i found it more than handy , i should say "indispensable". When i was painting , my workflow was to hide the parts that didn't allow me to see the area to paint ,for instance when you paint the under arms of a Character. It was painful to make some "go and back" in the voxel room but indispensable, the freeze tool wouldn't help cause i was mainly using the Materials. Anyway i think it's may be because it's very new to paint on the voxel (PVP) and to access it in the Paint room. But it could be good to be able to do that. It's the same for the Retopo room , i just start to do some retopo and i have the same problem. I pretty sure that there is some tools that should be share between rooms.
  13. Digman,Psmith I'm agree too,at the beginning i didn't really like the room concept, but now i find it clean. I just have few problems with, basically i would like to be able to access the "hide" tools in every rooms. It is a little bit painful to always go to the voxel room, (it would be good to rename it sculpt room) to hide some part of a model imho.
  14. Color management is missing from 3D Coat for sure
  15. I just saw you work , this is a crazy work.
  16. Sorry Chinchong there's some misunderstood. I was talking about the selection not the deformation. Actually what i meant is to deform the mesh like the "Distort Image" Material's option(i m not talking about the crazy interpolation or extrapolation).
  17. By default the brush is aligned to the normals under the brush. At least, this is my default parameter, and i didn't see any option to control that.
  18. Hello guys, I didn't manage to find the way to set my brush in screen space. By screen space i meant to have the brush always facing the screen and not the normals. It's usefull for the move tool. Thank you, Pixo
  19. Hello sorry to disturb your discussions. Zbrush or 3D Coat, it's matter of taste, with both you can achieve production assets. We use Zbrush , 3D Coat and Mudbox here . The big problems with these 3 softwares ... the pipeline integration (none existent),it's essentially due to the lack of scripting support (i meant a true scripting language not the ZB's joke). This is mainly why you can easily find all these softs in the same company. A soft integrated in a pipeline isn't easily removed (due to the investment) and you rarely choose another solution than the one that you integrated,i have never seen that . This is mainly why Mari is becoming the painter of choice in production, even if the painter himself is not far behind 3D Coat . Actually i found the 3DC better for artistic purpose, but it's less production oriented.(script, float ,half,LUT,color space, and export are weird, not supported, or not flexible ) The true is that ZBrush ,Mudbox or 3D Coat can be removed too easily from a company. Then it should become clear for software developers, there is a choice to do for the main dev direction, production or hobbyist . It doesn't mean to forget one of the 2. I personally think the rest is fanaticism, and continue to support 3D Coat in buying my license. Ps: please excuse my English
  20. You right AbnRanger, it's possible to do that, but i actually want to test a basic workflow with 3D Coat .
  21. Thank you guys. @Garagarape: i will not animate it ,i'm not good at animation. So next step, retopo, texture export and render.
  22. So i have finished this little creature. Let try to Retopo it now.
  23. very interesting i should have a look to it.
