  1. Yes that would be a nice improvement. When merging from retopo room, the user could be asked whether to merge all groups or visible only.
  2. Also it would be great if one could Alt/click on a polygon to select the retopo-group that polygon is belonging to. The specific key to use here does not necessarily have to be Alt, it could be any key really. And since this functionality would be nice to have inside the inside voxel room as well, It would make sense to chose a key that is not conflicting with keys already used for something else. I think it is important that the key used to select layers and groups is always the same throughout all the rooms in 3D-Coat.
  3. Wow, that looks cool. Andrew, now that you are working on retopo features I have just filed a request concerning the retopo room. http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8742 Oh, the thing that looks cool is "Major New Feature: Baking Multiple Retopo Layers in one go". The post was here a minute ago, but now its gone. Well i assume ABNRanger and Andrew knows what I am referring to.
  4. Transform gizmo. The transform gizmo in retopo room currently starts up aligned to global space as default. This makes no sense as you would want it to be aligned to either local or screen space more than 99% of the time when working in retopo. In general I think the way transform Gizmos are handeled in 3D-Coat need an ovehaul. The transform gizmos should have 3 settings that the user can toggle between: Global, Local, and Screen. Building Quads across Retopo groups. I cant figure out how to build quads in one group that snaps to vertexes of an other group. If this is not already possible, I think should be. Inconsistent rules for manipulating non active retopo-groups. I find it inconsistent that you can delete polygons of retopo-groups that are not selected but you cannot select vertexes of non active retopo-groups. I think That it should not be possible to manipulate, create or delete geometry of a Retopo-group unless it is active. Which brings me to my next feature request. Working in more than one Retopo-group at the time. It should be possible to activate more than one Retopo group at the same time. This would come in handy when the user wants to use the brush tool on areas that are split in to separate groups. Retopo group colours. Next to the eye icon in the list of retopo-groups there should be a square with the same colour as the retopo mesh in that group. It should be possible to click that square and get the colour picker so the user can change that colour of the individual Retopo groups. Currently the colour on the mesh in retopo room is not related to retopo-groups but to UVW sets. I think It would be nice to have Colours for both Retopo-Groups and UVW sets. I Imagine that when you work on the actual retopo-mesh the retopo group colours are shown and when you work on UVW layout the UVW colours are shown. This last suggestion here is not fully thought through though.
  5. Very nice. The hair is great. Pouches on the webbing are super. In some areas though, the cloth appears a bit to soft and the folds too random. Not that I by any chance could do a better job my self, and definitely not with voxels. Ever since i discovered 3D Coat a little more than a year ago, your work has always been a great source of inspiration to me. Thanks a lot and keep it coming.
  6. It would be nice if Interpolate was working for all brushes, including "paint with draw contour" Brush. Also it would be a great improvement if interpolate could be used on the "CutOff" tool.
  7. Yes that was it. I deleted <_str>CustomizeUI</_str> from the Options_Hidden.xml and now CustomizeUI is back . Regarding the "Stop_Customizing" button, I think that should be moved to the "Windows" drop-down as well. Maybe a good solution would be to have only one button that said "Enable customize menus" This button can then be either turned on or turned off but newer removed . When turned on all menus are visible and the user can tic on and of menu items. When the "Enable customize menus" is turned off the user will then only see the menu items he/she just selected. This approach is very similar to how things are working in ZBrush.
  8. Hi Andrew, I really like the new customize UI feature, much appreciated . However in build 25B (Win7, Cuda, DX64), once turned on it could not be turned off. This was really bad as wasnt even even be able to save my work. After rebooting the 3D Coat. The feature has completely disappeared from my menus. Very strange indeed. Also I find it confusing that the customize UI feature is accessible both via the Edit and Windows roll downs in the top menu. I Think it is unnecessary to clutter up the menu with redundant entries. Since every entry in the Windows roll down is related to to the user interface, I think this is the right place to put the customize UI entry. Maybe we could rename Main menu / Windows to Main menu / Customize UI. And then move the sub menu entries load hot keys, save hot keys and preferences from Main menu / Edit to the renamed Main menu / Customize UI main menu entry. Yes I know I am not making my self super clear here, so I am backing this proposal up with some visuals . Oh yes, then of course the new customize UI feature now called Customize should then be renamed to something a bit more descriptive. -Martin
  9. Hi Andrew, I think you should add an Apply symmetry to all visible layers feature in the Retopo room. And then the current Apply symmetry to all layers feature should be removed. I just lost a lot of work I did in the Retopo room. I was working on a group where I needed symmetry on both X and Z, so I frequently hit Retopo/Apply symmetry to the current layer in the drop-down menu as I was progressing. During this work, all other Retopo groups where hidden. At some point I must have antecedently hit Retopo/Apply symmetry to all layers. A fatal mistake I only realized way too late (after I saved the file). Now all my other Retopo groups were mirrored. Not exactly what I needed:(. Some time back we had a similar problem in the Voxels room, where it was possible to manipulate hidden layers. This is now fixed and it saves the users from a lot of trouble . I think You should make it a golden rule that layers and groups in 3D Coat cannot be manipulated as long as they are hidden. Finally I think it is a bit confusing that the text in the drop-down menu refers to layers when the tap above the retopo layers says Groups. As mentioned before I believe that 3D coat would benefit a lot from a terminology overhaul. Right now the terminology within 3D-Coat is a bit blurry and indecisive. Best regards -Martin
  10. +1. I too agree with the above. The tools are getting better and better, which is much appreciated . But the interface is also getting more cluttered. This I find is leading to a undesired cumbersome workflow.
  11. I absolutely agree. I too find it a bit confusing that the visual language used by the freeze and the Pose tools is not the same. The terminology and visual feedback here could definitely be more streamlined. When using the Freeze tool, the freezed part of the model are rendered dark and the non-freezed parts are left bright. When using the pose tool it is opposite. Now the freezed parts of the model are rendered bright and the non-freezed parts are rendered dark. This, I think, is inconsistent and unnecessary. I believe that it is one of those little cosmetic details that makes 3D Coat look more complicated, less intuitive and less user friendly than what it deserves. I suggest that Frozen and non manipulatable parts of a model are always dark whereas unfrozen and manipulatable parts are always bright, regardless of what tool is activated. This, I believe, would make for a more consistent experience. Currently when going from e.g. the Rapid2 tool too the Pose tool the Freeze settings are being reset and this is also the case the other way around. It would be nice if Areas marked as freezed would stay freezed when going from one tool to another. Finaly I think it would be great to have a key assigned to Freeze similar to what they have in Zbrush where holding down Ctrl will activate the masking brush. This would definitely speed up workflow. Best regards Martin
  12. Pen pressure works fine here. V3.5-19A-(CUDA)(DX64)- Win 7 64 Bit - CINTIQ 21 I had problems with my Wacom drivers resetting my preferences after reboot or not starting up at all. So I contacted Wacom support. Here is what the told me to do: The first thing we need is for you to complete a full reinstall as an Admin user. Please follow the directions below: Unplug the tablet from the computer. Uninstall the driver from the PROGRAMS AND FEATURES (respectively ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS) section of the Control Panel Reboot your system Remove any remaining Wacom entries from device manager Remove the following files from your system: tablet.dat and pen_tablet.dat from all over the hard disk (search as administrator) wintab*.* from WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 (and on XP64 in SYSWOW64) Reboot your system Your tablet driver is now completely removed from the system. To install the tablet again, plug in the tablet again and install the latest driver for your tablet (from http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?lang=en&pid=29&gm=3). After the reinstall, please check if A. the driver starts all the time B. the preferences are stored / used after each restart I followed the instructions and the problems mentioned above are now gone. -Martin
  13. Hi Phil, I believe that in general there are some issues regarding the cooperation between 3D Coat and Wacom. Ever since I installed 3D Coat a little more than a year ago, I have had this strange problem where certain pen actions stop working after using 3D Coat for a while. In particular the pan function is having a really hard time staying alive. When I start up 3D-Coat I can put down the tip of my pen anywhere outside of my model, click the button on my pen assigned to "right click" and then drag across my tablet in order to pan the view-port. After a couple of minutes, sometimes only seconds this is no longer possible. I can fix it however, by jumping to any other application running on my system and then jump back to 3D-Coat, bringing it into focus again. Now things are working again for a couple of minutes. This problem has been there with every version of 3D-Coat I have worked with and with Wacom Intuos3, Intuos4 and Cintiq21. I have also tried a number of different Wacom drivers without any positive change. The reason I have not been mentioning anything in this forum until now, is that I suspect part of the problem is in Wacoms drivers . Anyways now that I am at it I might as well file a bug in Mantis. Cheers -Martin
  14. Hi Aandrew, Can you, or someone else, expand the Select profile drop-down in mantis to include "Win7 Professional 64bit"? Cheers -Martin
  15. Hi Andrew, I just gave 3D Coat 3.5.16C (CUDA) 64bit Win7 a test run and I am overwhelmed with joy . Rapid2 Definitely works a lot better than rapid! Nice fluid motion. Scrathes2 is much better than Scratches. I think that the old scratches had a very unpredictable behaviour, hence I found it useless. Scrathes2 has good predictable behaviour and it runs fast and smooth. I think Scrathes2 is a very useful brush. Mud2 is also a bit more predictable than the old Mud. Even though the difference here is not that big I do prefer Mud2 over Mud. So I agree with philnolan3d that the Rapid2, Mud2, and Scratches2 tools are much better than their "1" counterparts. And I too wouldn't bother keeping the 1 versions. Also I agree with Artman regarding the Inflate brush. I am not really sure what that brush does, but it is definitely not inflating as I would expect an inflate brush to do. As the brush is working right now I really think it is only cluttering the interface. 3D Coat would be a more clean and nice experience without it. Well, super nice update, thanks again for all your hard work Andrew .
  16. It would be great if light-rigs could be saved out from the render room, and then be loaded into other scenes later on. If these light-rigs was saved with a thumbnail (of a sphere being lit with the saved light rig) that would be super cool. 3D-Coat could even come with a couple of standard rigs e.g. 3 point set-up with a key, fill, and rim light. this would help people get going with nice renders in a jiffy. Cheers -Martin
  17. Also I think it would make sense to move the "to global space" button to the symmetry menu (currently it is located in the right click on layer commands roll-out). I might be all wrong here (has happened before), but as I see it, this feature is pretty much related only to symmetry, and a feature you would indeed use just before you apply symmetry to your object. -Martin
  18. Hi Andrew I do agree with Mr_Nitro. I have often been looking for this feature too, without ever finding it, hence Ive been spending a lot of time on painstaking workarounds. Definitely the "Apply symmetry" feature should be assessable from the symmetry menu and maybe even from the right click on layer commands roll-out. Also it would be great if the transform tool did respect when symmetry was turned on, similar to how it works in ZBrush and Sculptris. This, I believe, would save some of us a lot of time. Cheers -Martin
  19. The Bug report form that pops up in a browser window when 3D-Coat Crashes, appears to be broken. The bug report text field is empty and there are no send or submit buttons. It would be great with a bit more visual feedback on this one. This applies for both Chrome and Firefox. Cheers -Martin
  20. Thats a great character. The style is definitely intriguing and original and he (or she) looks very alive. I am looking forward to see some more.
  21. I am having problems with the shaders too. BUILD: V3.5-09-CUDA64 DX and GL OS: Win 7 64 Bit HARDWARE: Dell Precision WorkStation T7500 NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 BUG DESCRIPTION: Depth shaders not working. Random parts of object is rendered all flat without light or depth info. The problem has been around for some time now. It is not a V3.5-09 exclusive. Untill now I have just been avoiding using the Depht shaders. I just installed the latest drivers from NVidia, but the problem persists. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: Start a new scene. Insert a primitive sphere. Apply one of the Depht shaders. Cheers -Martin
  22. I guess Moska is answering your question from December 23. regarding screen capture software. Yo can also try Camtasia or Jing. Jing comes in a free version that allows up to 5 minutes of video capture. I am not sure how they work on a mac, but on the PC they are doing a real good job. Nice test you did with the tinker Toys. If the human parts got a shader that looked a bit more like skin it would be really scary. did you render in 3D-Coat?
