  1. Hi There, I just installed V4 Beta3. I cant figure out how to get the 3D-Max AppLink working together with V4. Is this working at this stage?

  3. Hi Andrew, Using Liveclay/cutoff in version 3.7 leads to crash. I am writing here since product version 3.7 is not listed in Mantis. Well anyways, thanks a lot for the update
  4. Hi Poloxyo, I think you are absolutely right when you say that it is time to focus on Software-Usability. To some extend I also agree that it makes no sense to do that as a collaborative forum Project. At some point someone will have to decide what goes and what stays, a democratic vote is not cutting it here. However Andy and Farsthary obviously need some input from the users. Until now they have gotten a lot of input via this community, but the input is not particular organised and my guess is that it is close to impossible to translate all of this input into useful data that can be used as a vehicle for the Software-Usability improvements. A sub forum under the Resources & Development category might help in gathering all this information. But then again, maybe that too will just explode and become one big mess in no time. But really, we should ask Andy and Farsthary how they prefer to get this input, after all they are the ones that are going to translate this into the most awesome User Interface ever.
  5. Thats a very good idea. Maybe even a new sub forum under Resources & Development category.
  6. Just gave 3.5.27 a test run. Live Clay is slowly getting better. The Freeze and pose tools unfortunately got broken on the way. But hey, with Mud2, Move and the new and improved CreaseClay, one can get pretty far.
  7. What I am requesting is a preset system that allows the user save Tool, brush pressure settings, Alpha and brush settings in one preset. Is this already possible?
  8. I agree with 3dioot in almost everything he is writing in his post above. In particular I think that the many weird and broken brushes and the cluttered interface is a big problem. A brush preset system would be a very nice improvement to 3D-Coat.
  9. Hi guys, thanks a lot for the nice words. The noise on the surface is a mix between what you get from the Mud2 brush and a shader that I made. I'm attaching the shader here, for anyone who wants to use it. To install on PC, unzip to C:\Users\User_Name\Documents\3D-CoatV3\Shaders\Custom. Next, restart 3D-Coat and that's it. Note that the cavity effect in the 3D-Coat shaders currently is a bit weird, it looks like there is some annoying screen space shadow casting going on. this I hope Andrew will fix at some point. However you can always open up the shader editor (right clicking the material icon) and turn down the cavity intensity in case you find it too annoying. MKG Complex 02B.rar
  10. You should try the 3ds Max applink http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6692. it works very well. When I go from Zbrush to 3D-Coat or from 3D-Coat to ZBrush, I always use 3ds max as a transit. When you go from Max to Zbrush or ZBrush to Max remember to use GoZ. I find that this is the best way to keep track of scale and rotation, and I don't have to worry too much about OBJ export settings.
  11. Well in that case I think it makes no sense to expose its properties in the shader editor then. I mean, what is the reason why this should not be the same for all shaders?
  12. Where can one find some info on the diferent shaders available in 3D-Coat? In particular I would like to know What the Sel_gradient is doing in the complex shader?
  13. I am also getting exploded meshes from the flatten brush. In my case it happens when using the flatten brush on top of the Mud2 brush.
  14. Absolutely so. An on the fly masking (Freeze) system is a must. Also the Freeze tool and the Pose tool should be using the same masking. This is something that have already been requested in the Feature requests section. http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4869&st=0&p=65452&hl Fixing these masking/freeze issues in 3D-Coat will definitely speed up workflow.
  15. A quick Birdman i did this morning. Mostly using Mud2, Smooth and Move in Surface mode. Mud2 is No doubt my favorite.
  16. And that, I might add, is pretty far. Very nice work sir! The fabric is looking quite convincing now. Looking forward to see him when he returns from ZBrush.
  17. Wow! amazing stuff you got here. Mad skills for sure. It's very inspiring watching your videos. I only wish my Japanese was a little better.
  18. This is definitely something that would be nice to have. I would say very nice. The current way to show and hide the reference images is a bit cumbersome.
  19. It is in the menu to the left, at the bottom (Commands/Clear). Its also accessible via the space-bar menu.
  20. 1. In the Vox tree, right click on the voxel layer you want to reset. 2. In the roll out menu that appears, click "To global space" 3. The mirror plane of the selected layer should now be smack center of your scene.
  21. Oh boy. Its been right there all this time. Man I feel awkward now, but at the same time happy and relieved;). Thanks a lot guys, for taking your time to guide a blind old man trough the valley ignorance. I can only guarantee I will need your guidance again any day soon. Anyhow my request regarding the transform tool and symmetry still stands. For the sake of a coherent, intuitive and predictable UI. At least we should have some text in the yellow info box for the transform tool that reads something like "If you want to move objects using symmetry, use the pose tool, bla bla bla.." Cheers Martin
  22. Polyxo I think you are absolutely right. Dynamesh is an awesome addition to ZBrush especially for those that do not have 3D-Coat. however I still think that 3D-Coat beats ZBrush when it comes to adding and subtracting from volumes. In ZBrush it is still not possible to "dig" holes in a volume using only brushes. Just like in Sculptris you are still battling the limitations of working with a mesh. But you are also right that the finishing tools in 3D-Coat have quite some way to go before they are able to compete with those in ZBrush. Then of course there is also Retopologizing and unwrapping. Two areas where I personally find that 3D-Coat is still far ahead of ZBrush. So by the end of the day I'm glad I have them both.
  23. What I normally do in 3D-Coat is: 1. I turn of symmetry. 2. I move what I have to move, so that things, on the right side of the center seen from the front view, are where I want them to be. 3. I right click the layer I am working in and apply "To global space". 4. I hit the "symmetrical copy" button in the lower right corner. 5. JOB DONE. What I do in ZBrush is: 1. I move what I have to move with symmetry activated. 2. JOB DONE. If there is a more clever way to do things in 3D-Coat I would love to know about it.
  24. Hi Andrew, It would be sooooo nice if transform would respect when Mirror is turned on (similar to how things work in Zbrush). So when moving an element on the right side of the mirror plane to the right, going away from the mirror plane, this elements counterpart on the left side of the mirror plane will also move away from the mirror plane, and since it is mirrored that will be left. If what I am requesting above is possible I think this behaviour should also be applied mirrored instances. Martin
  25. Hi javis, I would love to see this and to comment on it. I truly find 3D-Coat to be a really powerful piece of software. Even with ZB4R2 now in my toolbox there are still things that I prefer to do in 3D-Coat. Nonetheless I do agree that 3DC needs a serious overhaul on the UI. I think it should be a top priority for Andrew to fix the UI issues and, of course, the long standing errors that Digman is mentioning. What is happening now with LC and the Surface room is really interesting. However these tools are still under development, and nowhere near as usable or stable as equivalent tools available in Zbrush or Mudbox for that matter. This hopefully will come in time. But right now I think that some effort should be invested into giving all the tools that already stand out from the competition that final polish.
