  1. I think this volumetric sculpting have big pontential, even in it's early alpha stage it works quite good. For the first time I feel completly free when sculpting in the computer. Great work Andrew this can be a really big thing. Here's a quick test playing around.
  2. Great, looking forward to the next version. Especially the one with volumetric sculpting.
  3. Is it possible to get the adjust subpatch to work in sculpting mode? would be nice to be able to set the subpatch/subdivision amount on the fly while you work like in other sculpt apps.
  4. I asume that we are talking about using the trees in LightWave. Just save out the tree with the button 'AutoSaveToOBJ(separate leafs)', now load the object into Layout and apply a UV clipmap using the transparency map(you may have to invert it to get it to work properly) now set the leaf surface to double sided and render.
  5. You should not use a normal map as a displacement map, export a displacement map if you want to use normal displacement.
  6. Just to add to this, they didn't buy Alias for Maya they bought it for Studiotools, now called Alias studio (industry standard app in the car industry for designers and costs about $70000). Maya was just a bonus, that's what I think.
  7. I could make a mockup in photoshop of a new GUI concept, as it is now it's too limited to customize. If I change the button shape everythings screw up and looks awful, but if you want to I could make a concept in PS and show you some ideas of what it could look like and you maybe can alter the GUI code to make it possible.
  8. Seems to work fine here as well, no graphic bugs at the moment. The draw topology tool works great and the new engine feels a lot faster than before. This is a really nice update, looking forward to the volumetric sculpting sometime in the future.
  9. Can't wait to test it out, keep up the amazing work.
  10. Andrew: You never stops to amaze me, this update is great. Love the new retopo tool, with some draw tools like silo and blender similar to the ones shown in this thread this tool will be perfect.
  11. Cool, great work Andrew. You just amaze me with your speed and skill, 3D Coat just gets better and better.
  12. Frankie: Nice work, I like it a lot. That volumetric sculpting app looks so cool, I'm been interested in claytools a long time but it's seems that you must buy their special input device with it and it's not cheap. If 3DCoat will support volumetric sculpting it could be a really nice way of sculpting/building objects from scratch. Looking forward to this feature. Organica was made by Impulse, inc the same company that made Imagine a great 3D app in the 90's. Organica uses metaball technology to smooth the general shape built by primitives.
  13. Have you tried to load the model with all settings at default and then turn on low poly shade mode? When you first load the model it will look subdivided and smooth/melted but when you turn on the low poly shading mode you will see only the low poly object with smoothing and can paint away on the low poly object.

geo_n: I don't think this model will benfit much from displacement, it will only slow down render and eat memory. But if you want it it should be done as you did with the normal displacement deformer if you don't want to use nodes.

Yes! that would be super, like Zbrush and Silo. Looking forward to that feature.
  16. Just install it over your previous installed version, no need to uninstall.
  17. Seems that we been able to sculp like that since it was called 3DBrush, I've just havn't played enough with it. I think it was not working very well because I tested it on a too low carcass model.
  18. rimasson: Thanks, looks good. Andrew: will it be possible to sculpt in vector displacement mode in 3DCoat or is it only for import from other apps?
  19. I don't see any reason to use 3DCoat for a simple thing like this. If you wanted to paint the can by hand then I would suggest using 3DCoat, but for wrapping a label like that you can just do it in LW.
  20. That's exactly what I was refering to, no vector displacement for the end user, but I'm sure Andrew fixes this fast enough. yeah, 2.10 sounds good.
  21. Ok, if it does it internally, but you can't utilize it when sculpting. You maybe know more about this then I do, but I've seen no proof of vector displacement when I done my sculpts in 3DCoat.
