  1. I haven't tried it yet but it's pretty interesting. It includes a pretty good connection to Unreal Engine and also includes voxels via OpenVDB and sculpting / painting tools. I don't think it's enough to be a competitor to 3D-Coat in that space but still petty cool! https://www.newtek.com/lightwave/2019/features/
  2. I made a tutorial on the free app Materialize that will help you make Smart Materials.
  3. My first thought is that the image size looks too low. I normally use 2048 or higher, but of course that depends on your needs.
  4. For you LightWavers I just made a new LWCad tutorial that is up for sale on Liberty 3D. It's 1.5 hours long and covers building a house from scratch including the inner walls, stairs, doors and windows, a deck, even a roof with modeled shingles. Right now it's even 25% off with the code:" MeowyChristmas2018 " https://www.liberty3d.com/2018/12/house-modeling-with-lwcad/
  5. What joke? It's the best thing you can buy if you do 3D sculpting or painting.
  6. You don't really need the latest 3D Conexxion Mouse. I got my Spacepilot on ebay for $50 like 10 years ago and I still use it with no problem today. I see one on there right now for $40 (Buy It Now).
  7. I keep several versions too but if you do need to download an older one you can just copy the link into your address bar and change the number in the file name, then hit Enter. At least that has worked in the past.
  8. What I usually do in that case is use the Live Clay tool with zero depth on the problem areas. That will add more geometry.
  9. Another thought. If you're just in surface mode and didn't have a UV map, then it's just coloring the vertices (points) on the mesh, not actually painting on an image. In that case having more points will give you more detail. So areas that don't look good might have a low poly count. You could tell by hitting W to see the wireframe.
  10. Here's a whole list of quick start tutorials. There are also a lot of other tutorials on that channel.
  11. Hard to tell exactly but it looks like a UV map problem. Did you check those polys on the UV to make sure they're shaped correctly?
  12. Will these zipped .3b files open in older versions of 3DC? I don't plan to downgrade or anything but it would be good to know if that will be a problem.
  13. Yeah, that should be no problem. I just tested it. Made a quick object with 2 UV maps and painted a Smart Material all over it.
  14. There's a free texture generator similar to Crazy Bump or PixPlant called Materialize. I made a tutorial on it including using the materials in 3D-Coat's Smart Materials. The tutorial premieres at 4pm Eastern today. There is a chat room open before and during the premiere. Come chat CG with us!
  15. I wonder if there's any chance of LWO3 being supported. I'm very used to saving out of LightWave and loading it directly into 3DC but after LW 2018 the files no longer load.
  16. Very interesting. I've used MoI 2 on some projects. It's pretty intuitive. I've never heard of OBJ supporting Sub-Ds though.
  17. Hard to say much without more info or screenshots. Perhaps increasing the layer resolution before importing.
  18. Just thought I'd share. I have a new tutorial on using Reality Capture with a regular phone camera and a drone to scan a building.
  19. I don't know about online lessons but there's a ton of YouTube videos. https://m.youtube.com/user/PILGWAY3DCoat
  20. This is something I've been thinking about replicating for a long time. I was reminded of it again by the Iron Fist Opening. I was originally inspired by the "speedster" in Heroes, which is a little different. In IronFist it looks a lot like voxels. Anyone have any thoughts on how it was done? I tried some particles in LightWave but it's not quite right, kind of lumpy and of course there's no real geometry.
  21. I just did it about an hour ago. I saved out a retopo object as LWO, loaded into 2018 Modeler and continued working with it. With another project last week I exported a textured model from the paint room and used it in Layout.
