Dont take it badly, but what first raced through my mind: It looks like an oversized gun to me ( i think because of this part under the bottom, that looks like a pistol grip ) But in the right enviroment (space), i would identificate it as starship without doubt.

3dCoat Eats My Harddrive For Breakfast
chingchong replied to kay_Eva's topic in CG & Hardware Discussion
i think were talking about two different problems... its a difference between files, which increase in size due adding a lot new (color) information, and files which increases without changing anything ( just increase by resaving) -

i had a big file issue two times or more but i my case it was only one file which got currupted at one point. This lead to astronomical increase of filesize, after each incremental save. heres one http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10085 didnt hear something about it, sadly But this was only regarding those "already corrupted" files. It was not a general problem. But i think exporting in obj and reimporting in new scene didnt solve the size-problem for me. Even then the sizes went up to 1,3gb and higher. -
yes thx beatkitano , i already reported that post... lol (tw it seems that my imagelinks are broken, need to fix them when im at home)

thanx L'ancien regime, could use that on my gorilla project, which i will probably rework sometime. and also thanx artman for your comment on posting #24 i refined my posting #24 it has now 800k tris. it should work with ca. 200k also, but i experienced mesh explosions during the use of LC-tools , so only way for me, was to move to voxels at 800k. I lost some real fine details, but i had to die one death anyway

I complained the bottom before, but now i think it looks perfect And i love this saturated style. About some more tweaking, i think its almost done, like you said. Maybe only adding some glare/ almost white areas to the peaks of each carapace-plate, but thats maybe not neccessary.

on the other hand there are some public genetic sources with are not allowed for commercial use. there are extremes in both directions. I work in a biotech company. We produce diagnostics for tumors and sell it to laboratories. And we would really be happy to pay for using that public source (Cosmid- Clones), but its not possible, they would not sell it to us. So in the end, these sources are only for public research institutes, which are not able to produce so high amounts of diagnostics the labs demanded. In this case the "commercial" diagnostics producer is kinda marked infamous. Their opinion is like, better to have no diagnostics than make money with the genetic source? ehhh?

i dont think, that natural genetic code can be patented, because you can access all the (at least human) code for free. There are only code sequences patented, which are more or less artificial, because they are maybe rearranged from different species'code, to a get a new functional genetic code. edit: ok, i actually have read the link just after. Thats truly no innvovation, when patents are allowed to be granted for a discovery of existing items. So if youre honest, there are alot patents out there (which also use basic code) that are rearranged to have a new function, but which existed in seperate parts free before. But the new constructed/rearranged complex or system (idea) is patented. if you say the implemented parts are free by nature, so make the whole idea free. Then all software should be free. And all constructed genetic code should then be free. But I agree, that not all patents are that innovative that they need to be restricted, but thats not the problem of the companies. It is the problem of not having experts in the dicision-making process when granting a patent.
