New Member JustTesting Posted March 27, 2014 New Member Report Share Posted March 27, 2014 In the Paint room, I'm able to paint Diffuse Color and Specularity without any trouble at all but I'm unable to get Depth to appear on my paint strokes. Whether I set Depth to 50% or 100%, there's no change. It's just flat. The Depth Icon is active (showing the purple sphere with the bump on it.) I've updated to the latest version. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I'd appreciate any ideas on this. Thanks everyone.
Carlosan
All models from Voxel Room > surface mode can be polypainted in color ---------------------------- Depth can be painted over UVmodels You need a model with UV applied To paint the normal map
Reputable Contributor digman Posted March 27, 2014 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Yes, as Carlosan said vertex painting or called polypainting cannot displace the surface only paint on the vertices of the model. Create all your true depth in the voxel room then use the normal workflow which is: Retopo polygons over the surface of the high detailed model in the retopo room. Mark seams and unwrap for your uv set Merge to the paintroom for either normal map or a displacement map. Now you can add more depth detail with either normal map depth or displacement depth in the paint room. New Member JustTesting Posted March 27, 2014 Author New Member Report Share Posted March 27, 2014 Hey thanks guys. This is very helpful. I tried to quickly unwrap a cube with no knowledge of the tools but I got stuck. I'll look for some tutorial videos and try again later. I've done a little Retopo and UV unwrapping in Modo so I know the basics but I would certainly welcome any recommendations of 3D-Coat videos on the subject. Thanks again. New Member JustTesting Posted March 28, 2014 Author New Member Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 Successful first test (despite my hideous UV map) but hey, it does what I need it to do. I had some issues where the brush would not displace unless I went over the area a lot (or maybe increased brush size?) Maybe I was on a UV seam in some of those areas? I don't really know what was causing displacement to work sometimes and not other times. Any ideas on that?
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted March 28, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 Avoid doing anything on Layer 0. Bad ju-ju, it contains the baked displacement from the retopo operation.
Advanced Member dimitribastos Posted August 6, 2014 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) For not creating a new ttopic, let me ask you something as a new 3D Coat user.I don't get exactly why do we need to paint depth on the Paint Room. If all the details are already sculpted on the Voxel Room, why bother with depth again? Edited August 6, 2014 by dimitribastos
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted August 6, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 Good point, just disable the Displacement in the Paint room. Many users reserve the Paint room Displacement for the finest details.
