New Member mpasteur Posted January 18, 2016 New Member Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 I am trying to find a program that makes it easy to work with the point clouds I'm getting from my 3D scanner. I've downloaded the trial version of 3D Coat to see if it will do the job. I open 3D Coat, select Repair Scanned Mesh, select Import as Voxels (close all holes), choose a PLY file, and then I don't see anything. It create a layer, and it seems like the object is there, but it is invisible and I'm not sure how to see it. Maybe this is not the best way to work with point clouds. If there is a better process, I'm open to anything. My goal is to get the PLY into voxel form. Thanks!
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted January 18, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 Greetings and welcome to the community. Can you kindly upload a PLY so we can test and give you the best workflow for your case? Thank you in advance Michael.
New Member mpasteur Posted January 18, 2016 Author New Member Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 It says "You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file" when I attach the PLY
Reputable Contributor Solution digman Posted January 18, 2016 Reputable Contributor Solution Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Look at the attached image... right click on the voxtree tab----go to import--- select point cloud You mentioned that it was a point cloud and not a point cloud that as been generated into a 3D model has of yet if I am not mistaken. I have never tried to import a point cloud to let you know. Edited January 18, 2016 by digman
Reputable Contributor digman Posted January 18, 2016 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) EDIT: This goes with the above data. I found some free Ply point cloud data. Tested and imported the model shown in attached image. Edited January 18, 2016 by digman

New Member mpasteur Posted January 19, 2016 Author New Member Report Share Posted January 19, 2016 Okay. The method digman posted does work. I guess you just can't do it from the new menu. I attached the ply file anyways. Thank you for the help. cube_001.zip
