Member C3D_ Posted September 22, 2021 Member Share Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) Hello forum, I made a retopo mesh in 3DCoat (Insta Mesh). The problem is that all faces are shaded flat. Facetes. So when i send it over to the paint room (Bake w/ Normal Map (per pixel)) the generated Normalmap also has these facets baked in. If this would not be the case i actually would not care since the model is shaded fine in my 3D Software. How can i switch to smooth shading?? I do not wanna subdivide any further. I tryd it but the facets stay (Just smaller polygons). Thank you! Edited September 23, 2021 by C3D_ Solved
Carlosan
Hi That is very strange. I have not seen this happen before. Could you please try latest version 2021.53 ?
Member C3D_ Posted September 23, 2021 Author Member Share Posted September 23, 2021 Hello, @Carlosan thanks for reply. I updated 3DCoat to 2021.53 but the problem persists although i found out what it is. Almost all edges are marked as "Sharp Edges"... colored turquoise in the viewport. I found that with the Retopo->Tweak->Sharp Edges Tool , i can mark the few black edges that are left also "sharp" and they turn turquoise. Okay, thats all great and nice... but HOW do i turn them back into "SOFT Edges" ?? There is nothing in the docs about it.... Thanks!! Select an edge with the Set.Sharp tool in Selected and use Clear Sharp.
Member C3D_ Posted September 23, 2021 Author Member Share Posted September 23, 2021 (edited) @Yousung Hello and thanks. Okay... Just found it also out myself the hard way. I get the idea of case sensitive menus... but if you dont know the tools and philosophy of the software then you are lost. A non global approach: 1. Add Geometry -> Select 2. Operate over Edges MUST be selected (Case sensitive menu!!) 3. Select all Edges on the mesh you wanna set to smooth 4. Selected -> Clear Sharp Edited September 23, 2021 by C3D_
