Hello forum,

I made a retopo mesh in 3DCoat (Insta Mesh). The problem is that all faces are shaded flat.  Facetes.

So when i send it over to the paint room (Bake w/ Normal Map (per pixel)) the generated Normalmap also has these facets baked in.

If this would not be the case i actually would not care since the model is shaded fine in my 3D Software.

How can i switch to smooth shading??

I do not wanna subdivide any further. I tryd it but the facets stay (Just smaller polygons).

Thank you!

Hello,

@Carlosan thanks for reply.

I updated 3DCoat to 2021.53 but the problem persists although i found out what it is.

Almost all edges are marked as "Sharp Edges"... colored turquoise in the viewport.

I found that with the Retopo->Tweak->Sharp Edges Tool , i can mark the few black edges that are left also "sharp" and they turn turquoise.

Okay, thats all great and nice... but HOW do i turn them back into "SOFT Edges" ??

There is nothing in the docs about it....

Thanks!!

Select an edge with the Set.Sharp tool in Selected and use Clear Sharp.

@Yousung Hello and thanks.

Okay... Just found it also out myself the hard way.

I get the idea of case sensitive menus... but if you dont know the tools and philosophy of the software

then you are lost.

A non global approach:

1. Add Geometry -> Select

Step1.png

2. Operate over Edges MUST be selected (Case sensitive menu!!)

Step2.png

3. Select all Edges on the mesh you wanna set to smooth

4. Selected -> Clear Sharp
