Member tonyd Posted March 9, 2011 Member Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 Hi again, As I continue to learn about this software I've encountered other problems. When importing an object of 88,000k the system really slows down and is sometimes unresponsive. I have a 2.93Ghz unit and 3GB RAM with 2046MB of virtual memory. Not sure what my graphics card is. I'm I choking the program with my large file? Thanks, Tony

I'm I choking the program with my large file? Thanks, Tony Open your task manager and see what your RAM consumption looks like. If it's close to your peak amount, then that tells you something in itself. Even on a beefy system, if you get close to your peak, Windows starts dumping a lot of data from memory to your pagefile...which really bogs things down. I'm not sure why 88k would do that, but there was recently some memory leak issues that Andrew supposedly fixed with build 3.5.14A.

Not sure if that makes a difference
Member tonyd Posted March 9, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 Checked CPU and it peaks at 75% Same as a when I have a working model imported
Reputable Contributor digman Posted March 10, 2011 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 My older windows computer is similar to yours but I have no problems on a model that size. It could be very well your video card. When you said importing due you mean into the paint room or merging into the voxel room?
Member tonyd Posted March 10, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks for the response Yes into the voxel room As I said in another post I am still having problems with importing into the voxel mode Anything it seems over 10MB crashes the program I've only managed to import an object once so far I get some virual memory errors asking to increase it That's fine but can anyone reccommend an amount? I increased a bit already but no help. Is there another problem I need to address? I select- Merge Select mesh Pick my obj file Apply Tryed answering yes and no regarding size I don't see an object and cannot seem find a function that scales it I had saved the object as a 4x5in piece Tryed hitting auto scale among other buttons Are there any other settings I should know about? Then chug....then crash I tryed the trial program on a friends computer which is a 2.1Ghz 2G RAM and was just as bad if not worst Z-brush seems to have no trouble openning any file size, but I really love your voxel features and truely am routing for 3D coat. Getting a bit frustrated however:nea: Please advise Many Thanks
Andrew Shpagin
If you importing model in voxel room please be careful about model scale. There is "Estimated polycount" - it should not be big, scale model down if it is big. Start form 100-400 K in "Estimated polycount". Seek what number is acceptable to you. Member tonyd Posted March 10, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks for the reply So the default Est polycount is 119 (not sure if this is in K) I tryed to change it to a different number. say 150 I hit OK but it reverts back to 119 I tryed changing it in every step of the process but it will not change from 119. Can you tell me what I did wrong? I then hit apply and I did get an object. I had to zoom it to about the size of a single square and the image was basiclly a blob. Can you tell me how to rememedy that? Is it related to the polycount issue I might be getting closer, a tad hopeful!! Thanks again Tony
Member tonyd Posted March 11, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted March 11, 2011 I increased my virual memory by double and it seems to stop the program from crashing when I import and object. But I just cannot find the imported object anywhere on the mesh or in space Still cannot change polycount. Would love to buy this program but cannot seem to even get it to work to the point where I can evaluate it. A bit more help would be appreciate it! Thanks Tony
Andrew Shpagin
You can change estimated polycount only with scaling gizmo, no other way rith now, so just scale model up.
Member tonyd Posted March 11, 2011 Author Member Report Share Posted March 11, 2011 OK I got it now. I was not sure how the scale function worked I can now use it:) Thank you for your paitents guys I did notice the resolution of my was a bit lower then what I started. Another dumb question might be in the works

Another dumb question might be in the works If you can utilize a video screen capture utility (like Jing or BB Flashback Express...both are free), and post a link to it, that can help get to the root of the issue right away. In this case, it would have gotten you an answer almost immediately. Plus, it's equally helpful when filing bug reports.
