Anyone with an Nvidia GTX 670/680?
bisenberger replied to AbnRanger's topic in CG & Hardware Discussion
If you paid for the Octane beta there is a release candidate, version 3 that works with the Kepler GPU. It works with my GTX660. Octane is cool, it imports 3D-Coat obj's with most of the textures in place. Just wish it had displacement mapping. AbnRanger, I put together a new system with an Intel Core i7 processor, lots of ram, and a GTX660 (3GB GDDR5). Everything runs quicker including 3D-Coat. I also installed Windows 8, what a piece of poop. Basically Windows 7 with miscellaneous annoyances. Kind of wished I would have popped for the GTX660 Ti, more cuda cores. -
Cool! nice work Andrew and some insight into workflow to improve results.

Looks cool! It would be interesting to see it printed.

Hi Babe, I highly recommend you watch the training videos on the YouTube Official 3D-Coat channel. I wish they would have been around when I started using 3D Coat.

I don't think Foundary's modo will ever be a direct competitor to 3D Coat, mainly because of the pricing difference. I fear that gap will only increase since modo now belongs to Foundary. On the other hand, if at some point the renderer in 3D Coat becomes more robust, look out modo . As far as crashes, I'm not experiencing an unreasonable number (certainly not enough for me to quit using 3DC). My OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

3D Coat is an amazing program but daunting to pick up and start using. The introductory videos lay the program out in an organized and easy to follow manner. I really look forward to the upcoming videos.

awesome Intro to 3D Coat videos on YouTube

Really looking forward to them! Thanks AbnRanger -
The training videos on the YouTube Official 3D-Coat channel are awesome! Description of videos taken from the YouTube channel: "Video series designed to help new and trial users to get up to speed in the application quickly, as well as provide some useful information for intermediate and advanced users." I've been using 3D Coat for a while, but I have learned tons of new stuff from these videos.

The t videos are also a big help! Makes me appreciate 3D Coat even more.Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Thank you AbnRanger for making the found on the YouTube channel. They are a huge help!

Polar array would be cool too! For things like this:

A Rhino Applink would be nice, but in the meantime it is easy to export meshes from Rhino for import into 3D Coat. http://3d-coat.com/f...indpost&p=79352

It works really good to export nurbs objects as meshs in obj format from Rhino and then import the obj for voxelizing. In the voxel room you can also use the Merge tool and Select mesh to add the obj. I crank up the number of polygons when exporting from Rhino since the mesh will be voxelized anyway. Should be the same for MoI. The image shows a Rhino export to obj with multiple objects. The individual objects can be retained when imported for voxelizing. A rectangular array tool in the voxel room would make it easy to create this kind of stuff completely inside of 3D Coat.

Pretty cool!!! -
Hi Greg, Just finished watching your rat from scratch videos. Very helpful and very well done. Thanks you, Bill

1) A way to merge an array of objects so the distances between each merged object is equal? 2) A button that would set position to 0,0,0 on the Merge Tool panel. See attachment

Hi Polygon, That's a pretty laborious process, especially if there were a considerable number in the array. Hopefully this will be an added feature at some point. It would be really useful!
