Really am enjoying the new materials in the latest version and how easy to make a quick scene for even a novice like me. Made this old padlock, key and box for a challenge very quickly. What a wonderful program! Thank you !

Being an untrained novice hobbyist I'm still loving 3DCoat and the new shaders are really cool. Yeah, it's rough - for a hobbyist like me, it's a fun play for retro-thinking geezers like me. Thanks so much for the new version, tools, render engine and shaders. Very cool!

V4 Stable version
T.H. ROCK replied to Andrew Shpagin's topic in New Releases, Bugs Reports & Development Discussion
I got Zbrush way back when it was about $250. I upgraded 3DC from 2 to 3 about five years ago. Guess I don't like that some get an upgrade for free and others don't. But don't mind me, I just old curmudgeon complaining who can barely see the computer screen anyway. I probably should take up counting leaves. Signing out, I won't be back. -
V4 Stable version
T.H. ROCK replied to Andrew Shpagin's topic in New Releases, Bugs Reports & Development Discussion
Guess I bought too many years early then upgraded to 3 to qualify for free upgrade to 4. Oh well, Zbrush 4R5 was free. -
I installed them, but I'm pretty sure I need adult supervision on how to use them properly.

Woot! Thank you very much!

I want to texture this komodo dragon like the one seen in the link. http://www.earthtime.../komodo-dragon/ What advise would you Pros give on what kind of layers I need to do this and exactly how would I generate a realistic Komodo scales that has depth. I want to achieve the look seen here with a plug-in in my 3D software render program. Thanks!

Maya 2014; retopo sneak peak...SHRINK WRAPPING
T.H. ROCK replied to L'Ancien Regime's topic in CG & Hardware Discussion
That's pretty cool! As I recall there used to be shrink-wrapping in one of the old trueSpace versions. Always wondered why that wasn't exploited further. -
Quite elegant.

Here's a wiki file to get you started. You can just start out simple to experiment, use auto UV and change texture size for starters. Then adjust later on as you become comfortable with program.http://3d-coat.com/wiki/index.php/1.1_Importing_Meshes

Depends if you are talking about the paint room or the voxel room. However, in either I have found the number of "nodes" (click to get a node) matters quite a bit for control and 'smoothness'. I usually put a "node" every two or three letters as it gives you control with movement (left mouse button) or size (right mouse button)

Was wondering if anyone has had a problem with large UV sets crashing beta 4 3DCoat? What I mean by large UV set is the UV's extend outside the grid of my 3D software program, so I take it into 3DCoat to retopo or get a standard auto UV. If I arrange the UV set within the grid of 3D Software and export it, there are no crashes. Is this just a 'duh' moment on my part or can anyone duplicate it?

[SOLVED] Voxel Not Showing Up After Being Put Into Paint Room
T.H. ROCK replied to alvordr's topic in General 3DCoat
This has happened to me a couple times. Usually I just put the retopo in the waste can and start over again. For some reason the retopo to the PPP room goes haywire on occasion. -
I believe it's "Alt Click" that moves the pivot point where you want.
-
Thanks! Hiding the Voxel layer in the Voxel room was the step I was missing. Shouldn't this be an "auto hide" or at least not a factor when working in the PPP room after auto retopo?
-
Can anyone tell what the problem might be? I make the default sphere in the Voxel room, add some spikes, then send it out to retopo with PPP option chosen. Once in the PPP room I can't paint on most of the sphere and I can't paint on the spikes at all. I've attached the PPP room and UV screenshots. Using the latest beta version of 3DC. I just click the defaults on the menus and do nothing else in retopo or the UV room, just a straight shot to the PPP room. PPPPaintproblem.3b.rar

Creating Your Own Preset Brushes Tutorials
T.H. ROCK replied to digman's topic in Beginners tutorials
Thank you very much for the tutorial! I learned new things today. -
The last time I put together "boxed models" was back in the 1950s when I was a kid. Don't think "kitbashing" was a term back then, at least not where I grew up in the U.S.
-
Quite honestly I don't spend a lot of time perusing the mainpage or the youtube channel. It may be surprising, but I have never heard of "kitbashing" until it was brought up in this thread. Would have never guessed what "kitbashing" was supposed to do just by looking at the word. I know it sounds like whining, but the presentation offered by Pixologic when they come out with new features seems much more clear to the casual user. It's the old method of presentation, "tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, tell them again what you told them." Thanks for the information though, it should be useful in the future. Edit: I still haven't found a reference to "kitbashing" or a description on the main page or in the tutorials page. Here is what I see on the main page for new features "video" (some garbled text. Internet explorer.

I like the insert mesh tool with the splines. I suppose one can do this in 3DCoat, but it's not promoted very well or at all.

Photoshop CS3 Extended Move Tool Problem
T.H. ROCK replied to T.H. ROCK's topic in CG & Hardware Discussion
I lowered the resolution, but it just uses less screen space (it's a wide screen LCD) and the letters remain the same size.
