While we are on the subject, does anyone know what these controls options do? -
[SOLVED] Projection Painting And Mapping Types
Pix Jigsaw replied to Grimmy's topic in General 3DCoat
You can paint with cylindrical and spherical mapping. Choose your material (in your example the label). You can add it to the materials menu by clicking the "new" icon. Then select it. The mask won't show as it does when you are in camera mode, but you will see a preview of it wrapped around your object when you move, scale and otherwise adjust the mask. Also you see it when you press the setting button. Also, to help you rotate more accurately, try setting the camera to rotate around world center or object bound box. That will help make it easier to rotate, at least for a fairly symmetrical object. Try turning on the 3D axis to help keep you oriented. (The Axis checkbox under the View menu) The mappings also work with masks in the Vox room. -
it is amazing how quickly the brain adapts to using the pedals. Plus its much cheaper than buying a new right wrist and shoulder.

I've hooked up a set of foot pedals to work with 3DC. Right now, I just have shift, alt, ctrl and space keys mapped to pedals. It is working well and making a difference. Since I can activate those keys without using the keyboard, I can move the keyboard to the side and bring my tablet towards the center. The ergonomics seems to be a lot better. The pedal software has good macro capability and can send mouse button presses as well as keyboard presses. It does not appear to conflict with my Wacom Intuos tablet. Anyway, here is a link to the system I'm using. http://www.gamingmouse.com/gaming/fragpedal/quad/ The hardware seems to be well made and it was easy to set up and assign keys and macros on my windows system. I haven't had it long enough to fully recommend it, but it certainly seems to be a promising addition to my studio.

Who uses Blender here at the 3DC forums
Pix Jigsaw replied to digman's topic in CG & Hardware Discussion
Blender and 3D-Coat are my primary applications -
That tool AbnRanger mentioned should be really useful to you. It will select entire polygons. Use it with the freeze tool. Paint with freeze will mask faces. Hold ctrl while painting frozen faces and it will un-freeze those faces. Also, check out the freeze tool menu on top for other operations related to freeze.

Painting with material only paints brush colour into layer
Pix Jigsaw replied to Ohnhai's topic in General 3DCoat
Digman Are you switching off the green color icon? I think Carlos is using RMB somewhere else. -
Really clear and useful Greg. Overall process was good to see, especially how effective the move tool is for this type of work. Other things I learned were caps lock to hide the brush alpha and using the color picker to show a reference photo.

It looks like you can paint specular through a material. Just turn off the color channel or set opacity to zero. You can also use the tool that darkens, lightens, etc. I can't find a way to paint a chosen color through a material. The brush either paints the color projected from the material, or it paints nothing.

Nice work. The second one really has a mixed media feel, and I love those colors. Very expressive.

Psionic's 3D Coat youTube tutorials
Pix Jigsaw replied to Psionic's topic in Tutorials and new feature demos
I've always enjoyed your tutorials. Very clear and practical. Thanks for putting them up. -
Earlier in this thread I did a step-by-step demo of how I was making picture frames with the lathe tool. Since then I've discovered you can do the same thing with just the lathe tool in less steps. Just use a curve like the one shown below. After I make the shape, I cut out the center, where the picture goes using the cutoff tool. Then I replace that part with a rectangle shape on another layer. Having the frame separate from the picture area makes it easier to texture in the paint room. The lathe tool lets you save and reuse the curve shape. Unfortunately the forum software wouldn't let me attach the curve shape to this post.

Painting with material only paints brush colour into layer
Pix Jigsaw replied to Ohnhai's topic in General 3DCoat
Did you get it figured out? Painting with materials has been in the program a long time, I suspect you have some setting set wrong. Here is a screenshot showing settings that work. Did you maybe have the setting that says Paint set to "Paint over image?" Posting a screen shot of your screen might help someone diagnose the problem,if you are still stuck. -
