  1. That method is useless in its current implementation, hense the mantis/trello request. It should be extremely easy to implement a proper brush relax, since all the algorithms are all already there for proper relax and the brush. I have no idea why the current brush relax is using such a broken method as is details in the mantis/trello post.
  2. So is this the default Retopology room thread atp? If so, I'm just wondering if we'll ever see a proper relax brush? All these other features look nice, but I'd settle for just being able to quickly relax parts of the mesh...(the request has been on Mantis and Trello for some time: http://3d-coat.com/mantis/view.php?id=1572)
  3. Select a tri and grow selection from any UV island/element you want, along with the element you want to attach it to, and re-project. No need to get edge loops in this case.
  4. After using the above method you can use any tool, Brush included, and it'll respect the set borders of the UV area you want to work on. If you want to stop paint strokes from affecting nearby objects, aside from freezing, you can lock them (padlock icon next to the eyeball) in the sub-object menu.
  5. "Edit Projections in Ext. Editor" will project the paint directly while ignoring the mesh curvature. That'll work for color at least, but I have no clue if its possible with depth. :-/
  6. Paint Bucket tool, enable "Fill w/freeze" and disable "Use Color Tolerance", then click on all the UV islands you don't want to paint on in the "Texture Editor" window (or, freeze the one you want to work on and then use Freeze > invert).
  7. You can have Opacity linked to RMB drag via the "customize navigation" menu, but you would have to give up both size and depth to do it.
  8. Had no idea he left Pixologic. Still really respect him for the amazing work he did creating Sculptris years ago (I was in the beta, it was a blast, almost any change or fix we requested was implemented in under 24hours). Interesting to hear he's with The Foundry now. Wonder if he's cooking up anything for future versions of Modo, or did for the recent 901 launch...?
  9. MightyPea: I wasn't able to reproduce any of the issues Andrew mentioned either. The artifacts issue makes me think it might be worth trying different drivers though.
  10. With all the improvements made to the viewport I'm surprised theres been no word at all about improvements to transparency yet.
  11. Yea go PC. It's hard to recommend a build though without knowing your budget.
  12. We know that Andrew intends to implement SSS and a new layer masks system (both of which a lot of people are looking forward too). Not sure past that though.
  13. You should give the AO on those pieces some color instead of leaving it as just black, makes it feel softer and more organic.
  14. Very impressive looking release. They've managed to cover nearly every area I hoped they would. Just need animation layers and a major overhaul to cloth physics now (I really want someone to try to compete with 'Marvelous Designer'). Am skeptical though about the symmetry since that has historically been an extremely buggy feature in Modo.
  15. Also, they lied on their last kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krita/krita-open-source-digital-painting-accelerate-deve/description Photoshop compatibility: "Masks: Load and save transparency masks" As of v2.9.2, exporting to PSD neither saves transparency masks, nor can krita properly load them. They need to finish their first kickstarters goals before anyone should give them money for another one.
  16. I tried to like Krita, but it just feels so bloated and sloppy, even though there are quite a few really nice features. The layers panel is especially hideous and unusable, someone did a mockup on their forums (left=how it currently looks. Right=how it should look):
  17. Adobe huh...I guess it's better then AD getting them, but at the same time I can't say I have a lot of faith in them as a company. Photoshop hardly ever gets useful improvements (how many decades till they incorporate a proper brush stabilizer?), and they've let Flash die a slow painful death dotted by poor stability and bloat. Also not so keen on the idea of Modo becoming another 'Creative Cloud' subscription-only app.
  18. Sounds way too much like a scam. Probably just another site that makes their income by selling user info.
  19. Then get Modo :p Max 2016s creation graphs are a neat new feature that got my attention; The ability to quickly create custom tools and modifiers without messing with maxscript or the sdk sounds great.
  20. I think your exaggerating the number of substantial requests that people have been waiting on for a long time. Most of the features people want are very minor, but there's just so many of them that the vast majority will never be implemented. Most of the ones you mentioned are either forever ongoing requests (continuous improvement to autoretopo) or rather new (SSS in PBR, new pose tool). Also, calling Masks a 'luxury' is weird, as 3DC as an entire application is a luxury; it doesn't do anything that others apps can't in some form, but it sure can make getting the desired results a lot easier. The more 3DC can make tasks like painting hassle free the better.
  21. AbnRanger: Both viewpoints regarding masks have been argued to death on these boards atp. We don't need to go over it again in this thread. Besides, we know Andrew has slowly been working on a new PS compatible layer masks implementation for a while, and despite different viewpoint on the issue they'll be getting added sooner or later.
  22. Layer Masks should be somewhere in there too.
  23. I was a big fan of the original Skymatter Mudbox, but yea AD should have put it out of its misery years ago given how poorly they've treated the brand.
  24. Normally new Modo versions have a lot of interesting new features, but this just seems to be a 'plugins now included!' release (not just talking about MeshFusion either). Hopefully they have a lot more to show. Realtime shadows in the viewport and a built-in script editor is what I'd most like to see (like Max has had for a long time).
