Andrew Shpagin
Last days I worked mainly over bugfixing. I have fixed all that was mentioned in forum, reported personally to me and found by me. Topological symmetry was essentially improved and now works with sculpt mode good. Import/export big mesh was also essentially improved. The official 2.10 release date for both Mac & Win versions - 25 Aug, monday The link to release candidat is there: http://www.3d-coat.com/files/3d-Coat-2-10-RC.exe Big thanks for testing and help! The link for customers to get serial is there: http://www.3d-coat.com/get_my_serial.php

Member Layer01 Posted August 20, 2008 Member Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 Congrats on the upcoming release Andrew! I'll be buying my copy of 3D coat when it comes out on monday I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, or if its been discussed anywhere else, but how do you plan on handeling the PC/Mac licensing? Any chance of doing it like how Modo and Silo (and probably some others) do it, where you buy a license but can use it on either Mac or PC. Because I have a Desktop PC which i use for most of my work, but also a MPB laptop which i use on the go..it would be cool to be able to use 3DC on both..like i do with silo and modo. Just my two cents

Advanced Member wailingmonkey Posted August 20, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 rimasson, Make sure you've got NO falloff set on your pen alpha...that little 'hiccup' seems to stop strips from working (mentioned this in previous builds and I think Andrew should take a look at it as I think it will confuse most users to not have strips work when falloff is enabled). Andrew, Thank you for fixing the Topological Symmetry! (works much better for me on a model I used 3dC's sculpting tools on...no more blown-out verts!) I have fixed it, but bug can be avoided by enabling all channels.

The way 3d-Coat license system works is actually better than Silo in my opinion. You install 3d-coat on multiple machines and when you move from PC to PC or Mac, you choose "uninstall license" from within the program before you migrate and then just paste your serial number in the new machine and it'll activate. As long as 2 machines do not have an "active" license at the same time, you're fine. I'm not sure how this works if you don't have internet connection. -Rod

(stupid) it will be useful when i want to mirror only color or displacement, or spec.

Would be interesting to hear how it works offline though.

Would be interesting to hear how it works offline though. My editing PC has never been hooked up to the internet and I haven't noticed any problems being off-line and using the latest 3DC RC. It only tries to go on-line after you install it and register it the first time. Just select "stay off-line" when Internet Explorer starts up and then there's no more attempts to go on-line after that...MG
Andrew Shpagin
I have compiled last build before monday's release. If there will be nothing critical I wil use this package as a final release: http://www.3d-coat.com/files/3d-Coat-2-10.00.exe Mac version: http://www.3d-coat.com/Serega/3D-Coat-2-10.dmg The maket of press-release: (Tell me if I have missed something important) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is new in 3D-Coat 2.10? 1)Completely new render engine it supports DirectX and OpenGL render. DirectX is better for game video cards, OpenGL- for professional Quadro FX cards. 2)3D-Coat becomes cross platform it supports Windows and MacOS 10.4,5 (Intel) 3)New powerful retopology tool. You can find good tutorial/overview there: www.3d-coat.com/tutorials/Retopo/retopology.htm There are several pictures that demonstrate retopology capabilities: Paint strokes: Connecting slices: Add points and faces separately: Add quads: Splitting edges: Tweaking with brush: And many many other... 4) Layers support full set of Photoshop blending operations: 5) Now you can apply different blending opeations to depth of the layer: 6) Specularity channel has become separate from color, now you can paint specular on new layer. 7) Most of tools was improved: Baking tool does not bake hidden faces, it is convenient. New drawing modes spline lasso and source poly painter: Cavity painting has become better and more controlable. Clone tool is now able to copy using topological symmetry. Transform tool is able to transform all visible layers or paste them merged Fill tool has got much better preview, now it accounts material, mask, condition: Plane tool hs got extrusion slider, now it can work as a clay brush. There are handlers in «select and move» and «drag points» modes of Sculpt tool: Topological symmetry tool works now well with non-normal displacement and can be applied using pen, not only as a whole. Interface adjusted, every menu can be pinned to desktop. It is especially useful for retopology tool. 9) You can view model in actual polygones without normalmap. 10) Better quality of image dropped to Photoshop in projection connector. This image could be used as a render preview of hight poly mesh.
Advanced Member Frankie Posted August 24, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 First time I have the time to test this upcoming release. I have to say I'm again amazed by 3dcoat. The retopo tools are wonderfully easy to use, yet very powerful. The version is very stable for me. Congratulations Andrew, and keep up the good work. Can't wait for the 64 bits version
Advanced Member SonK Posted August 24, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 Works fine, seems stable..but this is my first time testing any version of 2.10. Let wrap this up and get started on 3.

Let wrap this up and get started on 3.0 Excellent release, Andrew. My students are very impressed. I will bring up our site license agreement price to my boss in October. I just need to demo the program for him to convince him. I will echo Sonk's statement and look forward to 3.0!! Very excited about voxel sculpt to say the least. Can't wait to be able to sculpt in this fashion: -Rodney
