Advanced Member arumiat Posted September 15, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 15, 2016 Hi guys, Are any of you successfully exporting normal maps from 3DC to Substance Designer? I get a nice bake in 3DC but exporting the normal map (using Substance export settings) gives me this: As opposed to this in 3DC: Having tried baking within SD but am running into a different set of issues -> https://forum.allegorithmic.com/index.php?topic=13115.new#new Any insight greatly appreciated, T

Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted September 16, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted September 16, 2016 Hmmmmmm , had some similar issues on the very start (a couple years back when i was still trying 3D Coat i think). Solved them really quick , i always take notes when something bugs me a lot. Will search today after work and post here

No, this is a new option, I will turn that on. The thing is the resulting bake in 3DC looks great, but the exported map in Substance looks very bad. 4 hours ago, Michaelgdrs said: Hmmmmmm , had some similar issues on the very start (a couple years back when i was still trying 3D Coat i think). To be clear, the bake result I get in 3DC is perfect, it is only when I try take the map to Substance that it looks bad.
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted September 16, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted September 16, 2016 Had the same or very similar issue. If i remember correctly , i changed something in 3DC and then import in Substance was fine too. Will search tonight.
Contributor Malo Posted September 16, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted September 16, 2016 No problems on my side. I use the Substance Preset, too, for baking. Tested with 3d coat 4.5.37 Substance Painter 2.2 Substance Designer 5.3.4 I know, i am not up to date, but i never run into problems between 3d coat and Substance. Only if i dont use triangles for texturing.

Hi Malo, I'm 3DC 4.7 and Substance 5.5 but I imagine I'm probably the source of the issue, given I get baking problems in Substance too. What do you mean triangles for texturing? Contributor Malo Posted September 16, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted September 16, 2016 I mean the faces. If i bake with quads and dont check Triangulate, i get quads in the Paintroom. After export and import in Substance Painter/Designer, sometimes the quad gets tiled in different triangles as 3d coat tiled it. You know, top left to bottom right or top right to bottom left. Two ways you could triangulate a quad. Then i have a disorted normalmap in some areas. But in your case, it looks like you dont have any quads. So i think, that wont causes any problems on your model.
