  1. Hi all, for anyone interested in rapid prototyping I have had another sculpture printed out by the good folk at Shapeways.com Pictures here : http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3526 This is a roughly palm size piece made in a new material on test called "White glaze". It does a very good job of mimicking the rendered voxel. Due to the imperfections of 3d printing it looks a bit like glossy-bone. I'd encourage everyone to try it out & am happy to help in any way. (I have no affiliation with Shapeways other than being a customer.) Cheers, Robbie
  2. Thanks again, I thought that would require the exchange software. It really is good value for how advanced it is with the various rigging tools etc. Will start saving some spare change towards it
  3. I spent a good 30mins looking over the site last night. I'm very interested in purchasing as I don't have any video editing tools other than Quicktime Pro & Blender. Do you know if it can import .obj files or is it restricted to google warehouse & 3d Max formats?
  4. Nice looking results there. I last looked at iClone about a year ago - never realised it had the particle-effects engine or even compositing tools.
  5. Nice of you to offer this to the community, good luck with it all.
  6. I use Nvidia in laptop & ATI in desktop & can't tell you I've noticed any differences, but laptop is 32bit machine so I obviously don't stress it as much as the ATI powered desktop. ATI 4850 in a new-ish Dell i7 & Nvidia 9600 in (maybe 9800, can't remember? Laptop-spec card). I wouldn't believe the hype about 4x as fast but.
  7. I must admit my post comes across as a little bit of an over-reaction. Happy to leave it there and not edit, but for the record on reflection now I don't think quite the same as I did a few hours ago. Musta been the morning-blues.
  8. I find it slightly distasteful that we see a post encouraging its use but to me its unclear what the intended benefit is to be if the system is adopted and used as described. If as suggested it is mainly used for positive encouragement and the like how is this any better than someone replying saying agreed, nice comment? Whats in it for the user? Whats in it for admin? How will the community as a whole benefit from this? Why no discussion first? Also, Why arent there more positive-encouragement posts about using the Wiki? Why present the Bug forum in a manner that too a new user, some may stumble upon and think Gee this softwares forum sure has a lot of bug topics "No sir, I don't like it."
  9. 3D Coat now has a Wiki, which I would think would be great if everyone contributed to. I don't have much experience using Wiki's so was asking for ideas basically.
  10. Sure, right-click Vox tree(Volume 1 - or whatever the layer is currently named) & select Import. Or use Merge under the Object menu on the lefthand toolbar
  11. FYI I have started a little bit of contributing - my first time with Wiki so bear with me as I get used to it
  12. Hey all, does anyone have any favourite Wikis that might show good examples of layout & usability & community style engagement ?
  13. hmm. Finally got a chance to try & it works fine for me on version 3.1.07 64-bit non-Cuda. Maybe a version earlier was buggy?
  14. This is worth adding to the Wiki, no?
  15. I must admit experiencing the same issue, and thoughts. Rather than constructively posting like you did I forgot about it until now.
  16. fantastic style and real 'character'.
  17. Phil - great idea with the gallery, do keep at it as I wanna see screenies Geo_n I believe I used wavefront .obj in my short test with Unity. Would try that if possible.
  18. http://tinyurl.com/y8wkgr8 Thats not good. Go click the above and do something about it! And if it helps I only have one arm and it doesn't stop me 3d'ing Go get treated!
  19. 650 seems a strange default given the minimum seems to be 512. I have 2048 levels available and unfortunately this thread made me realise my previous settings must have been changed back to default when having difficulty with a separate issue. So thanks for that. On the otherhand I disagree with your attitude that as an artist you shouldn't have had to look in preferences. A good workman shouldn't blame his tools, and a good workman should also look in the toolbox hehe! Please take that in the semi-serious manner intended. Learning various softwares preference settings & different ways of doing things is just as important as learning how to use the software itself.
  20. Please correct me if wrong but doesn't the sculpt room provide a good method of creating normal-mapped based bump-detailing? I'm not a game-model-creator, but wouldn't they voxel->retop and then choose to paint per-pixel, or paint direct, with possibly slight tweak in sculpt room with the idea that the efficiency of normal-map bump will be better than just a standard bump-map detail?
  21. I have ATI 4850 and don't notice much of a difference between GL/DX modes.
  22. Hi Paul, I use 3DC on a 2yr old laptop dualcore 1.86 2GB & 512mb, and an i7 920 with 8GB. I use CPU process-meters on both systems to see what is going on. A LOT of things occur on one core only. (on both PCs) I'm not sure exactly what you mean by system going crazy, but if you see 100% CPU activity then yes a lot functions will do this, but if just say painting or light sculpting then no it shouldn't. I can't give much advice but a process-monitor utility that can stay on top helped me learn what is going on. Sometimes things of course can crash and leave the system at 100% activity.
  23. well I'll throw in my two cents and agree this sounds a real winner of an idea.
  24. GUYS. Tone it down please & think once or twice before tossing around statements like some above. We know we are capable of discussing other softwares Pro's and Con's without resorting to childish behaviour. There is a good feeling about the community here, but lately we have started to bicker about other software in a way that ain't so good. (disclaimer. I'm no moderator and have no right to tell you what to do. I CAN ask however)
  25. Hi Greg, I think I know the feeling and have been guilty at times myself of being a little bored of game style renders. Different courses for different horses as they say. http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3526 http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3386 Voxels to real sculpture http://www.3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?act...ost&id=4597 As a more abstract style artist, I have had great fun producing a real live mini-sculpture direct from a voxel sculpt and it was very rewarding. I'd recommend it to anyone to give it a go as for just $25 you can make your own desk-toy out of your sculpts. Sometimes I have questioned myself about posting images to galleries here as I didn't think that they really belonged here, but the community has still left some nice comments on them anyway. There will always be more images in the galleries here on themes such as games characters, head busts etc. What can we as a mini community do to foster a better environment for us abstract artists? Would a separate forum gallery help? I'm not so sure. I think more comments, and critiques would encourage others. I came close last week to deciding to stop uploading... not really sure why but maybe I'm over it. I hope so.
