  1. @Carlosanmy friend, not solved :D

    Hey mate, I think I **may** have discovered the source of the problem. Somehow it seems that the 'silouhette' slider had maxed out to 100 automatically, or at some point it was actually a PBK error...... as I may have accidentally shifted the silhouette slider to 100 ?? and it was defaulting to that at other times (perhaps that bit wasn't me?) . I think a combination of these variables blasted my render settings with materials (curiously it didn't happen with matcap). I will test more to reproduce and confirm. 
    To think that I uninstalled, reinstalled a number of times and edited the registry too.... Damn. I think the source of this problem sits within the *Silhouette and *Light Silhouette * sliders. A complete uninstall, registry savaging and reinstall would have meant that all render room settings went back to default. 
    I don't know why it happened when I upgraded to latest beta. Very strange.

    I did email support with a screenshot and link to this thread. It did it with literally every file I opened so I didn't send a specific one.

  2. Hey guys, so sorry for the late response. I didn't realise you all had! 
    @Oleg_ShapoIt is super strange. Thanks for you help anyway mate.

    @digmanThanks for the advice, and most kind of you to offer to look at my file yourself. It was happening with any file I opened.
    @CarlosanI believe the only thing it didn't do it to was matcaps. Even then they didn't look right. 

    In the end (and not knowing you guys had attempted to come to the rescue) I thought it was either a problem with the rendering code itself, or the materials had become corrupt. Not that I am a programmer, just seemed logical. I uninstalled, dumped any files in Documents on C drive, and removed any 3DC entries in the registry. It wasn't ideal, as I will to import all the custom stuff again, but happy it is working.
    Went back to the latest stable build. Seems to work fine now, I hope!

    I should have added that materials were also not showing properly in the sculpt room, before going to render room. Somewhat worked, but no cavity map, I am guessing.
    Also, once render room had been visited and materials went 

    I checked in render room, screen space reflections was ticked, and render pass was set to composite. Changing to 'light' yielded no difference.

  4. Hey guys, 

    Can anyone tell me how to overcome this? latest 3DC version. Importing low res mesh from Blender 3.0 into paint room, as an .obj 

    This is my result. Also getting super weird little artefacts from decimated mesh inside 3DC, 97-98 % reduction.  But this blender one is really significant. 
    Cheers legends (updating to latest NVIDIA drivers now, just in case)

  5. Dudes, How do I get displacement working in the paint room, please? I just tried to follow a tutorial, but mesh was so dense it crashed my machine. 
    Win 10 64 bit, i7 processor, 32 gig DDR3. Any tips appreciated, I am wondering if it is going to be easier to use blender for displacement, (but modeling in 3DC)  I want to fake hard surface panel breakups. Using new 2021, and tried to follow this tute : 

    I got to creating the occlusion layer, and could see mesh if I hit 'w' but invisible otherwise. Don't know what I am doing wrong? I want to be able to create displacement ideally like Octane does, or Blender.

    On top of the fact that I cannot get the Applink to work in blender anymore, (also can't move 3DCoat data, every place I tried to move it to said I didn't have permission) due to not being able to see the 3DCoat tab in the 'n' panel, I cannot get 3DCoat to export textures at all out of the paint room. No retopo performed, so that could be the issue, but the applink file had no retopo work done, but at one point the .obj and my textures were imported into Blender? What does the applink create in blender to get some form of UV to work? My other question is why are my textures coming out fully gray when I export normally, not using the applink (which has disappeared anyway)? Using 3DC 4.9.72 Blender 2.9.3.1. Please, help me send this cool looking ship, into Blender with the applink, or at least get my seat exporting textures, this is sending me nuts. I have googled, I have watched, I have done copious amounts of trial and error....

    Thanks bro! That confirms it then. I just willmake much better use of the smart material preview window, and be more systematic with my material application from now on :) pulling it apart, it looks like I made that ‘effect’ from two layers of varying opacity. 
    Not the best way to do it, obviously making a custom SM with those specific textures and opacities is much for efficient. I have so much to learn about texturing in 3DC (or any 3D other than Keyshot) at least I am on the journey now :)

    Hey dudes! Can anyone please tell me, is there a way to see which smart material is on an object, please? I made a lot of smart materials, and need a faster way to work out which one was the successful one ? The eyedropper tool doesn't seem to highlight the active smart material for that part of the mesh? Thanks in advance.

    When there is problem, usually there remain some corrupt Exchange directory. did you change 3d coat data directory recently?

    I may once open 3d coat, then check your data path by Edit>Relocate data path.

    it will be show current your setting path for data.. then you just need to set the Path the data path/Exchange in blender scene 3d coat property.

    (if you have installed 2021 beta, it may cause issue because 2021 now use different directory for Exchange I confirm. do not know app link auto set for 2021 = change Exchange path to 2021 without you notice it.

    or sometimes I forgot to select mesh, in blender, (then nothing happen. 3d coat add on not auto detect which object you will export ^^;)

     

    This makes me think…I have installed the 2021 trial, which has since expired… maybe it is looking for that, or it is interfering in some way 

  10. Guys, I am about to ask possibility the dumbest question I have ever asked. How do I create a quick emissive object to test the new illumination features please? 

    My excuse is I have been leaning heavily on blender for rendering for quite awhile now, and I can't vaguely remember how to illuminate an object in 3dC. Really keen to test it out. I did google it, and can see how to make an emmissive material, but wondering how some of these scenes were done, specifically the sci fi corridor..... Cheers all 

     

     

  11. Thanks to @AntonTenitsky, there totally is: 

    There was one thing I was missing - make sure that the .obj and .png files are in the root folder that you are dropping into C:\Program Files\3DCoat-V4.9.37\VoxStamps\Objects 
    (of course replacing all drive and folder names for your particular situation). 3D Coat was not drilling down into the extra folder I dropped in there, so putting them all in the root folder works and this makes me very happy! @kenmo

  12. Thanks @kenmo I appreciate your response, totally trying to avoid doing that, as there has to be a quicker way, I agree that is hugely labour intensive.
     I will reach out in desperation and tag the great @AbnRanger who has helped me many times in the past :):) Actually, I also have to wonder if @AntonTenitsky is on here too? (turns out he is!) Please guys, can someone help me with this? Many thanks
