Member noobmeister Posted February 27, 2014 Member Report Share Posted February 27, 2014 I was wondering if someone could tell me the best option to run 3D Coat on my Win 7 64 Pro with a Nvidia 780? It appears to have defaulted to GL-64-Cuda which I guess is the best but Win 7 has DX11 so that is why I ask. Thanks, NM

Javis
I don't use the cuda version because I find it a little buggy. So I tend to stick with the non-cuda builds. Your mileage may vary of course.
Contributor ajz3d Posted February 28, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted February 28, 2014 Javis, could you elaborate a little bit more? What kind of bugs are we supposed to keep our eyes open to?
Javis
The cuda builds in general are pretty unstable overall. I've experienced lots of crashing and freezing up when using voxel sculpting, which is the only place where cuda is actually implemented. So I suppose if you're doing too much voxel sculpting, one musn't necessarily worry too much about it. If you are however, I highly recommend using a non-cuda build for this reason. I suspect it may have something to do with the much older version of cuda that is being used in 3DC. Andrew has not updated it since it's original inception, of 2009. While it was awesome to have such performance enhancement while voxel sculpting, at the time, and having the trade-off of lesser stability, I'm of the opinion that if cuda was updated for 3DC, it wouldn't crash as much. But of course, this is just an opinion. I cannot speculate whether it would be, and personally, I don't use voxels much these days if I don't need to. I stick to surface mode and LC. Contributor Tony Nemo Posted March 1, 2014 Contributor Report Share Posted March 1, 2014 I've noticed a maxed out GPU with a 560 TI when in voxel mode which I use whenever I don;t want boolean hassles.
Javis
Definitely a good idea when using voxels for booleans. Just be sure to save frequently!
