Member andre3000 Posted May 26, 2017 Member Report Share Posted May 26, 2017 I am modeling machines which have layers that break away when destroyed: the outermost layer, the inner guts and the skeleton. When smart painting this objects, Ambient Occlusion bakes the entire thing so the inner guts are completely black, occluded by the outermost layer. I tried to hide groups of objects but constantly smart paint asks to re bake AO even when I'm painting already baked objects. What's the workflow? I "explode" the parts , paint them so they get the AO correctly and then get them back in the editor / modelling software. I am not sure if the option is available when you do your initial bake textures. But if you bake occlusion afterwards it is and it works fine.
