Yes, sometimes you want to be able to paint the other side of a flat plane... an example would be a highway billboard....

Also that would mean exporting a true 2 sided polygon. Maybe it could be added as an option...

Well, what the OP is talking about is not painting on the backside, but actually having the RENDER Room show both sides. For example, if you model a barrel cover for an assault rifle, with ventilation holes in it...you cannot see the other side, in the Render Room. You can in the Paint Room, though. It's an oversight, I'm sure. Most 3D apps allow you to choose 2-sided for the material.
