3D-Coat 2.10 BETA5 (Release candidat)

I've got some bugs with both DX and Gl versions of 2.10 release candidate:

In the 'Adjust Subpatching' manu, when 'Show polygons' and Vertex lighting' are both activated, when i draw a stroke, the depth is only updated when i release the mouse button.

In 'view low shaded mode', i only see the color info (similar to the View unshaded model'

The loading of a model seems to takes a longer tome, also.

Found another bug with the topology tool :

when the symetry is activated, if i create poly on the right side of th model, these polys are visible, but if i draw poly on the other side, they're not visible, but i can select edges, and vertices

It is because plane cuts off other side. Use "Invert symmetry" to retopo other side.

1. I'm having some difficulties with the Filling Tool on both BETA5B GL & DX versions...

A.) No matter what I try I can't get any depth to be generated at all with the "Filling tool".

- I've tried the 3 different fill types (layer, material, object).

- I've tried almost all of the included sample "Modulation types" and their modulate depth, depth modulator, extrusion, bump texture settings.

- I've tried different settings for the depth slider on the top menu bar, right side depth menu settings including "additive drawing" selected.

B.) The Filling Tool "material preview" window doesn't update when I make changes in the filling tool's "modulation type" depth/extrusion options. Everything looks flat with no depth in the preview window. I can barely see a little something change with the "noise & Fractal" ones. Compare with 3DC 2.092 and you'll see a big difference.

2. Is there a way to lock/protect a layer from being modified in any way? I'm finding that if I add/delete layers, sometimes "Layer 0" gets automatically selected and I draw away on it and don't notice until it's too late.

Ref my earlier post above...Anybody have any ideas what I'm doing wrong or are these known bugs? I'm gonna run out of hairs to pull out soon :unsure:

It is in discovering process. But on my side fill tool works perfectly, just preview has some problems. Have you tried it on standart sphere?

Yes, I used the standard sphere thatthat shows on 3DC startup. You're able to paint depth using the Filling Tool with no problems? Thanks for looking into this!

i found a problem about picking color by image files on both DX and OGL version:

when i click on the image to get a color, it returns the wrong color

after a little experiment i can probably be sure that the image has been (virtually) flipped vertically

i am using an ATI HD3870 graphics card with the latest 8.7 driver, XP SP2 32bit, dual monitors

I encountered a weird bug :

I open the demo head

Upwrap the Uvs in 3DC (The uvs are completely different from the original file

save the file

exit 3DC

re open 3dC

Load the modified demo head

export the Uv set

Import the saved Uv set.

THE UV ARE LIKE THE ORIGINAL DEMO HEAD MODEL. they didn"t changed...

I've got another bug : I DX version, when i zoom out too much, the Uvs in subdivided wireframe mode are messed up

I've got another Issue :

On the attached file, the UVs are welded. (each face is welded to the contiguous one)

but when i import it into 3DC, all the Uvs are not welded anymore. it's especially obvious when i set the Subpatches smoothing to smooth

Link to beta 5 updated (BETA5C). Changes:

1) Memory leaks fixed

2) Clone tool has got depth/color opacity slider

3) Transform tool can copy entire block of layers (not only one layer)

4) Licensing system is done on 100%. Now it notifies server and checks serials online if possible, checks local network for identical serials usage.

5) Fill tool bug fixed, preview is correct now

6) Snapping in retopo improved again, bugs fixed

7) Import/export uv bug fixed

8) New import options: ignore smoothing group, invert normals

9) many small bugfixes reported on forum and found by me.

To rimasson: please use option "Ignore smoothing groups" to import object.

Big thanks for testing and reporting bugs!!!

A few things i noticed with Beta5C:

1. When i drag a window, the click goes through and paints on my model.

2. I can't paint over high specularity with a lower specularity brush.

3. The brush texture shows the preview up-side-down but paints correctly.

4. 3D-Coat is getting addicting. :D

there's still a little issue about the picker:

picking color by images will return wrong color when the length or width of the image is not power of two,

especially occurs when i try to zoom in to pick a color, i'll just resize my images to bypass the issue for now.

i have to say that the performance of 3DC is really cool :D

i get about 150fps when working on a 3mil mesh(E8400, ATI HD3870), painting is way fun now!

Current issues I have (that I hadn't seen already mentioned):

Cannot switch Y/Z without smoothing mesh (DX/GL)

Freeze tool unaffected by masks (DX/GL)

Mask/Material rotate behaves too slowly in new version. (DX/GL)

Specular color when viewing as shaded appears blue (DX)

Low shaded view: Model is missing (GL) Model appears nonshaded (DX)

GPU: Radeon X1050

Unable to reproduce :( I have thied image 370x371 and it works fine.

What image size do you use?

please check the attached image, i zoomed in to its face and try to get the color of its left pupil,

and the result was the color of its iris

my screen size is 1280x1024, dual monitors, 3DC is running on the primary one(right side)

It's not a huge issue, but i created a topology, added an additional extrusion value, then exported a raw model, but the additional extrusion dosen't have any effect on the exported mesh

All issues are fixed, link is updated to BETA5D. Changes:

1) New! New retopo tool add point and faces! I hope you will like it.

2) Export raw & extrure fixed

3) Picker issue fixed

4) Drag window and paint fixed

5) Low shaded mode fixed

6) Mask works with freeze now

7) Specular painting issue fixed

8) Fill preview & specular issue fixed

9) Transform all layers and merge improved

10) Something else....

i encountered another little problem:

when in Ortho-projection mode, after some navigation like pan, zoom, rotate etc,

the mesh will be clipped as if theres a near clipping plane, please take a look at the attached picture.

to solve this is to reset camera position and everything come back again.

so maybe it's not even close tyo a problem maybe. :P

Specular improvement is nice. I still notice that if i paint a high specularity (ie 1.0) on layer 1 then i paint a lower spec (ie 0.75) on layer 2, the high spec on layer 1 still shows through. is this how it is supposed to work?

I hope that makes sense.
