Andrew Shpagin
3D-Coat 2.10 released ! Links: Windows: www.3d-coat.com/files/3d-Coat-2-10.03.exe Mac (Intel): www.3d-coat.com/Serega/3D-Coat-2-10-02.dmg (available for purchasing) *edit: Links are updated to 2.10.02, see list of changes below the post. New features of 2.10: 1)New user-friendly licensing system. 3D-Coat is not hardware locked anymore, but you should never share your serial number. Also 3D-Coat can't be run on 2 computers simultaneously with the same serial number. If you are customer of 3D-Coat you can get new serial number there: www.3d-coat.com/get_my_serial.php 2)Completely new render engine - it supports DirectX and OpenGL render. DirectX is better for game video cards, OpenGL- for professional Quadro FX cards. 3)3D-Coat becomes cross platform - it supports Windows and MacOS 10.4,5 (Intel) 4)New powerful retopology tool. You can find good tutorial/overview there: www.3d-coat.com/tutorials/Retopo/retopology.htm There are several pictures that demonstrate retopology capabilities: Paint strokes: Connecting slices: Add points and faces separately: Add quads: Splitting edges: Tweaking with brush: And many many other... 5) Layers support full set of Photoshop blending operations: 6) Now you can apply different blending opeations to depth of the layer: 7) Specularity channel has become separate from color, now you can paint specular on new layer. Most of tools was improved: Baking tool does not bake hidden faces, it is convenient. New drawing modes - spline lasso and source poly painter: Cavity painting has become better and more controlable. Clone tool is now able to copy using topological symmetry. Transform tool is able to transform all visible layers or paste them merged Fill tool has got much better preview, now it accounts material, mask, condition: Plane tool hs got extrusion slider, now it can work as a clay brush. There are handlers in <select and move> and <drag points> modes of Sculpt tool: Topological symmetry tool works now well with non-normal displacement and can be applied using pen, not only as a whole. 9) Interface adjusted, every menu can be pinned to desktop. It is especially useful for retopology tool. 10) You can view model in actual polygones without normalmap. 11) Better quality of image dropped to Photoshop in projection connector. This image could be used as a render preview of hight poly mesh. 12) Support of different types of uv-set smoothing in import/import uv-set/baking. Big thanks to everyone who participated in beta testing !!! edit: 2.10.02 changes: 1) Power/battery consuming - if mouse stops motion for 0.5 s fps will decrease to dectrease processor/video load level. It does not affect painting/navigation speed. 2) Change mesh resolution issue fixed - no more specularity line ate the edge. 3) Ignore normals and smooth uv mode works as expected now. 4) DDS full support (for Mac), for Win it was done in previous release. 5) Installer sets "Run as admin" flag for shortcuts. Member The Lorax Posted August 25, 2008 Member Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 Andrew, I just went to purchase and I want to be sure I am clear on this. The following purchase: 3D-Coat Full Professional Version Mac OS (Upgrade Win to Mac) for $40 This will allow me to keep my current PC version of 3D Coat, and give me a new serial so I can also use 3D Coat on my Mac, correct? So I will have both the MAC and PC versions for $40 more being a current 3D Coat user. Thanks Lorax

Advanced Member Marc Wakefield Posted August 25, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 First volumetric alpha/beta/demo (?) comes in a week or two. A week or two!? That's amazing! Goodness man, do you not sleep!? You do all of this and still have time for your family. If only the guys over at Daz were this dedicated with Hexagon. Bravo! Member maggot Posted August 25, 2008 Member Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 Wow you must be writing this in hyperspace. Doesn't even compare to Waz and HexWagon (Daz and Hexagon). I can only test for brief periods of time, but haven't found anything wrong.
