philnolan3d
Hi guys, I just thought I'd share that I have a new 3D scanning video in which I showed 3D-Coat being used. I'll add a link in the description for those interested in 3DC.
Carlosan
Hi Phil Have you had time to test the tools in the new Photogrammetry Room?

Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 19, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 19, 2023 I tried the photogrammetry room in 3DC. I used a set of 60 photos I took with my Nikon DSL that I used in 3DF Zephyr to create a 3D object. In 3DC I created a point cloud but could not see any options to go further and create an 3D model. Am I missing something?
Advanced Member DMG Posted August 19, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 19, 2023 My experience was the same as kenmo... I normally use 3DZephyr for photogrammetry too. In 3DCoat I managed to get a point cloud, but couldn't see any way to progress.
philnolan3d
So I haven't had time to look into it. What exactly is it supposed to do if you're starting with another program? I usually use Reality Capture for photogrammetry but that goes through the whole process, doesn't make sense to switch programs in the middle, unless it does a better job or something.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 20, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 20, 2023 Yeah, the process is confusing as it seems to be lacking the options.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 21, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 21, 2023 Sorry, by why hasn't someone from 3DC answered this question?
Carlosan
I contacted Andrew about this issue. It was reported.

Am I missing something? Hi! Sorry for the delayed response. Thank you for your interest in the photogrammetry room. To create the 3D model from images in 3DC, you need to meet the following system requirements: • CUDA (at least ver. 10.0) • NVIDIA driver (at least ver. 400) • GPU capability ( at least 3.0). Did you get the following message box before installing the photogrammetry room? Best regards, Vitaliy

VitalVolokh
Ok. Thanks for the system information. Can you run "nvidia-smi --query-gpu=compute_cap --format=csv" from command line to get the compute capability?
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 22, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 22, 2023 Thanks kindly. I did as you suggested and got the following reply compute_cap 6.1 7.5 Is this adequate?

I did as you suggested and got the following reply compute_cap 6.1 7.5 Is this adequate? Yes, that’s adequate. Please do the following actions. 1. Remove the directory “COLMAP” from the folder ...\Users..\Documents\3DCoat\data\ThirdParty\ 2. Run 3DC and go to the photogrammetry room. 3. Check if “The System Specs Requirements” window appears before activating the room. Please take a screenshot of this window and send it to me. I want to understand why you don’t have colmap with CUDA installed. Best regards, Vitaliy

Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 28, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 28, 2023 I have 3DC ver 2023.27 installed but see .28 is available. I will update to that. Cuda is installed on my Ryzen 7 3700x. I have Cuda toolkit from Nvidia already installed. Thanks kindly.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 28, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 28, 2023 Once again I have deleted the COLMAP folder and updated to 3DC 2023.28. I get the same results as before. Did not have to do anything like this to get RealityCapture, Meshroom, Agisoft, or 3DF Zephyr to run. So I guess 3DC is not going to work for me for photogrammetry. Thanks for your assistance, but I give up.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 29, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 29, 2023 Sorry, but I do not mean to be rude. I am retired and next year will be 70 years old. Two years ago I found myself tasked with being my 92 year old father's primary caregiver. I live with my Dad and find it occupies most of my time. When I do have a free amount of the time, the window is very brief. So when I sit at my computer I want to do something in 3DCoat, Photoshop, Blender, Rebelle, etc and not be involved in the technical stuff just to make something work. I was a system admin for Windows, Novell Netware, SUSE and Citrix fileservers for close to 35 years. And now that I am retired, I preferred to leave the techie stuff behind. Sorry, if I offended anyone, it was not my intent. The reality is I only have so much time in my day and when I do have some idle time, I want to relax and create something and not struggle to make an application work.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted August 30, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted August 30, 2023 But if anyone at 3DC wants me to try again, I certainly do not mind or test the photogrammetry for them. So please send me a message if I can help test the 3D scanning stuff.
VitalVolokh
Hi! Thank you for your participation in testing the photogrammetry room. You did not offend anyone. Photogrammetry features are still under development, and we are doing everything possible to improve our work with them. Thanks, kindly.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted September 4, 2023 Advanced Member Share Posted September 4, 2023 Just updated to the most current version .29 and I also deleted the COLMAP folder. Launched 3DC and went into the PHOTOGRAMMETRY room and had the exact same results.
