Javis
Hey all, I posted a new video today. It's a work flow related video, from LW to 3DC and back again. I cover the creation of morph maps in 3DC and then for use in LW. Rather simple, but there are a few nuances that should be known for the process. Anyway, enjoy. This was a fun video to do. Taros
Sculpt changes are not attached to the last selected layer in version 3.2.03. Is this true? I've tried to do the same and give the default head in 3DC a smile, like in the video. But the changes were not attached to the layer. I moved back to the paint tab, after the changes. I've really done all the same but the sculpt changes was not layer dependant.

Javis
Hey man, I hope you don't mind, but I moved your post from the announcement section to here. That's pretty odd. Just to narrow down the issue, be sure the layer you want to append the changes to is selected, and that it is the only visible layer as well. This may play a role in how it attaches changes. I will run a test to see if this is the case.
Javis
I've uploaded a new video that was created by Peter Bowmar, he walks you through the process of a 3DC<>Houdini pipeline for your texture maps in this video. Thank you Peter for creating this video!

Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted February 24, 2010 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted February 24, 2010 Hey Javis...if you happen to be working on a "Intro to 3DC" title currently, may I suggest something that may be beneficial to both you and the end user/customer? As Kurv Studios breaks down their webinars into different sessions, break yours down into segments and make them available for purchase/download as you finish. Then when you're done, you can sell the DVD as a single title...with the option to just buy segments they want at a time. This way, instead of waiting until you're completely done (which progress can be hindered by interruptions and such), you have smaller bites to sell and get to market. The end user gets something in their hands much quicker as well...so it's a win/win either way, IMHO.

Javis
First, sorry for not attending to the forums lately. HUGE project at large, can't do much forum stuff until after GDC. So my apologies to all. No. Unfortunately it is still not working here. That is so odd. We should get together on skype and we can walk through the process over video chat. I was checking out my ecommerce solution to see if it could do this last month before I put the DVD up for sale. In fact I almost put the DVD up that way, once I found it could. But decided against it. For future training that is paid and where it makes sense to part it out, I will definitely be doing this.
Advanced Member Digital777 Posted March 2, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted March 2, 2010 Im just wondering will the free tutorials continue still so it's just on pause while you make a new DVD tutorials or will they all be paid from now? By the way if anyone is looking for a cool tutorial idea how about some that show the steps of rendering a 3DC model/scene with a app like LuxRender, Sunflow and YafaRay via blender (as it's free so everyone can try it) for realistic renders. Maybe one day there will be direct exporters for these rendering apps also, this would be very useful.
Javis
Im just wondering will the free tutorials continue still so it's just on pause while you make a new DVD tutorials or will they all be paid from now? Hey there. There will be paid and free tutorials alike in the future. At the moment though, I am on a huge project for Pilgway. It has taken precedence over all training, and dare I say all other projects I had lined up. All training projects will continue after GDC. I can't say what it is, due to NDA. Sorry. Javis
Does that mean 3DC will have a booth at GDC?...hey, has a nice ring to it. It sure does! Unfortunately not this year... This is a top secret project. Black Ops. I've already said too much...! The men in black are already here... Gotta go! +1, I second the intrugue Javic ;-) hmmmm cant wait to see the project when its ready It will never be seen by public eyes. That is all the more I can say on it. Sorry! Anyway, yep. Tutorials will be flying out the doors and windows when I get back (for a little while anyway). I've got a queue of videos I need to hit. Some really good work flow ones especially. Can't wait to finish and release them.
Javis
Hey everyone! I have posted up a new video. It covers the topic of using the voxel sculpting tools to generate normal maps on a LOW poly asset for game assets, rendering, etc., with out the need to edit the mesh in any kind of way and only exporting out your texture maps (AO and N maps). Enjoy! philnolan3d
Good video. Normally, I would just load it into the painting room, but there might be that one tool that you want to use that is only available in the voxel room.

Javis
Thanks ifxs! Appreciate it. Phil, absolutely! It might be rare, but certainly a useful work flow possibility. I've found myself using them a few times, it's quite good! Especially when you need to try and adhere an organic sculpted look to the normal map on a hard surface object.
