At first, you should read installation notes, then install corresponding AppLink. After installing you should run your App, then run 3D-Coat. There should appear the new menu in 3D-Coat - File-> Open in -> Your app name. You may use this item to bring 3D-Coat's models from any room (Paint, Retopo, Voxels) to your app with color, normal, displacement and specular. But you should choose what you need - displacement or normalmap, not both at once. Also you may bring your models from your app to 3D-Coat using plugin. In this case you will get new item in menu - File -> Open in original app. In so way you may bring model back to your app. You need at least 3.5.01+ to use AppLinks. It would be nice if we can edit import dialog too, like we can do export dialog now. And the other thing is that right now output textures naming is based only uv-sets and material. It would be nice if object would be included into naming. Like for example if I have two objects in 3d-coat scene the naming would be like this Cube_Material_UvSet1_disp.jpg Sphere_Material2_UvSet1_disp.jpg In my opinion order Object_Material_Uvset_texturetype.jpg would be the best order. The programmer working on the Maya AppLink is also working on the LW applink, he's re-working the Maya one and is nearly finished. Shortly thereafter he'll begin coding the LW applink. Now that Lightwave 10 is being released and modo 501 is out, these are the two AppLinks that I would welcome. Can 3DC link to and respect the folders of existing texture images, and create new ones in the same folder as needed?? Thank you again. Example: 1-st interaction: ----------------- Maya export: obj: export.obj, import.obj texture: __ *** 3dcoat export back: obj: import.obj texture: import_initialShadingGroup_color.tga 2-nd interaction: ----------------- Maya export: obj: export.obj, import.obj texture: import_initialShadingGroup_color.tga *** 3dcoat export back: obj: import.obj texture: import_import_initialShadingGroup_color.tga As you can see, after 10 interactions we have a very very long names )) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BTW: I'm using 2.1.1 and the newest 2.2 as well.. This is my Favorite Modeling App, for character Creation, if I can combine this with 3DCoat, being able to send models back and forth, to / From Silo and also to / from Messiah Pro V5, I can then model, paint, sculpt, and animate quick fast and in a hurry!!! This will rock.. Also, Sculptris and / or CB Model Pro applinks would also be great! Thanks Andy or anyone else who can help out with this awesome idea / project you guys have going... I can believe the flurry of activity, I leave the forums for about a month or so, to work on a game project, I come back and viola' look at all of this, I am so happy right now, I think I will do my happy dance!! ;') ehehhehe Seriously though, this is very very very awesome! This will rock.. Not going to happen: go ask nevercenter for an sdk that will never come and then get banned just for asking. That's how they roll ! But I can suggest you to try Voidworld (look for the latest pages on thetopic: the software is evolving really fast and new build get posted almost every week), it has applink support built in and is as fast and flexible as silo (in fact better, more tools). Comming from silo you will probably pick it up very quickly ! Same for sculptris: the only way to do that would be to add go-z support in 3dcoat....
