3D-Coat 3.5 updates thread

Updated to 3.5.18 (Win only , Max+Lin - probably tomorrow)

changes:

- I made support of alpha images mip-mapping. It leads to really good stroke quality. Compare: http://bit.ly/ea0WCL and http://bit.ly/eS5cqK . It is especially important if contrast high resolution alpha is used. Old style stroke was too noisy, new style - smooth like in PS. More images to compare - http://bit.ly/guuQjL and http://bit.ly/eWxOZz .

- You will be able to see amount of UV vertices in retopo room. It is important if you have budget of polygons for game model.

- Inverted chiesel brush issue fixed - http://bit.ly/guiy7k

- Freeze and Rapid2 issue fixed - http://bit.ly/hSQxMP

- Brushes preview problem solved - http://bit.ly/ev515y

- Importing of subdivided T-shapes fixed - http://bit.ly/gslNP2

- Curve tool issue fixed - http://bit.ly/euee4N

- In latest couple of builds there was error on non-english Win that caused screwing some brushes settings (like depth modulator). Now fixed.

- Specular brightness issues fixed - http://bit.ly/fuWr6e and http://bit.ly/e6m62d

- The issue with mesh bereaking fixed - http://bit.ly/ii3H6h

- I found one potential rare source of small dots artifacts while transforming from surface to voxel mode and written code to prevent it.

- Wireframe in paint mode will be shown without missing chunks.

- Absolute brush issue fixed - http://bit.ly/dJnURk

- Fixed important bug - possible crash after using hotkey to make something massive - like import mesh for PPP.

- Crash fixed - http://bit.ly/fYf7Cr

- For ease of acccess to all import possibility you will be able to import retopo mesh/mesh for voxelizing from file menu.

- The problem with incorrect UV-sets resolved - http://bit.ly/dIkgrb

- tif/exr included in regular texture export format. You will be able to choose if you need to use it with or without alpha in Textures menu.

- Adding materials folder improved a bit - http://bit.ly/e2uKSB

- I made "Apply to visible" and "Apply to subtree" in shaders RMB menu.

- Image picker navigation will work correctly even if picker is docked.

Are there some conditions when it happens? Is there easy way to reproduce? Can't reproduce it in Win version.

I have gone back to 3.5-16E Cuda64 and there is no problem on either DX or GL

In Surface tools on standard voxel sphere object:-

3.5-18Cuda 64DX

Lines appear when

Draw tool draw vertical stroke press Enter to smooth

Rapid tool draw vertical stroke press Enter to smooth

Rapid2 tool draw Horizontal stroke press Enter to smooth

Mud/Mud2 tool draw Vertical stroke press Enter to smooth

The occurence of the lines also appear to vary with zooming.

I was able to reproduce it om Mac and fixed on all systems. Probably it happens only on 2 - core processors.

Helpful to have several PC :)

Linux build 3.5.18A uploded.

I'm trying to export TIF via Export/Diffuse

but just get these errors:

TIFFOpen: /home/jamiem/3D-CoatV3: Cannot open.

Linux build 3.5.18A

Also, how do you choose to not export the fourth (alpha) channel?

Ahh... I just noticed the menu options. Hopefully that's my one and only stupid question for the day.

So now everything works OK?

No I meant I just saw the option to turn off alpha.

The TIF, TIFF and EXR all produce the

TIFFOpen: /home/jamiem/3D-CoatV3: Cannot open.

And do not export any files.

Be sure you're running 3DC as admin (Right click>Run as administrator)

This has a huge impact on a lot of functions in 3DC, including adding files to 3DC (such as shapes for b-splines, masks, etc.). Hope that does the trick.

Also try saving to a different directory (like the desktop) to see if that helps.

I've just tried exporting as TIF, TIFF & EXR all with no issues, to my desktop while not running as admin.

EDIT: Another thought, wipe your config files and try again! That could possibly be part of the issue.

Here's something strange that's happening in 18A, if I click a Vox Tree layer with the mouse, it's fine, just selects the layer normally. however, if I click it with a Wacom stylus it opens the "Rename" text box as if I had double clicked. It's happening every time I click a layer.

Edit, this seems to be a tablet problem, not 3DC, it's also doing it with text that I click here.

Unfortunately this is not an option, since I'm working on a networked linux workstation in a large studio. There is no way that I will get admin priviledges.

Also, the other export formats such as TGA still work fine.

I'm pretty sure he was assuming you were on Windows, the Run as Admin thing mainly helps there I think.

Ahh yes. That's a whole other bag of tricks. I'm not sure what the issue could be in that case. We'll have to wait for Andrew or Sergyi to answer that. Sorry.

Hi Phil,

I believe that in general there are some issues regarding the cooperation between 3D Coat and Wacom.

Ever since I installed 3D Coat a little more than a year ago, I have had this strange problem where certain pen actions stop working after using 3D Coat for a while. In particular the pan function is having a really hard time staying alive. When I start up 3D-Coat I can put down the tip of my pen anywhere outside of my model, click the button on my pen assigned to "right click" and then drag across my tablet in order to pan the view-port. After a couple of minutes, sometimes only seconds this is no longer possible. I can fix it however, by jumping to any other application running on my system and then jump back to 3D-Coat, bringing it into focus again. Now things are working again for a couple of minutes. This problem has been there with every version of 3D-Coat I have worked with and with Wacom Intuos3, Intuos4 and Cintiq21. I have also tried a number of different Wacom drivers without any positive change.

The reason I have not been mentioning anything in this forum until now, is that I suspect part of the problem is in Wacoms drivers ;) . Anyways now that I am at it I might as well file a bug in Mantis.

I didn't really have any problem with voxel smoothing before and thought it was fine, but I must say, in the latest version smoothing seems really fantastic. I don't think I could ask for it to be any better. Good job Andrew!

Yes, I agree. The new mip's for the selection of Voxel stamps is a very nice addition also. A lot quicker and easier to locate items. Great work.

Awesome work on the 3.5.18a

It seems that the Specularity brightness issue is still not fixed on Mac though:

- layer 1 filled with 100% spec

- layer 2 Painting details with 0% spec won't do anything. Still have to work around it with masks.

Continue the hard work Andrew, this is great !
