Andrew Shpagin
Merge tool looks cool. Is there a way to rotate the model in the heading, pitch and bank? Now almost all my models are upside down, or not correctly perpendicular to the surface, and remodelling shouldn't be necessary. If not available: would be nice to be implemented in a next release. Implemented. See twitter
Member 3D-TPI Posted August 15, 2009 Member Share Posted August 15, 2009 Is there no solution to this problem for me? where should I go in the forum to get this resolved.. clearlyy it makeds sculpting pretty weird if my voxel mesh keeps tearing like this.. installed 08O rtoday 8-14-09and got soem problems w the CARVE tool It looks like its tearing into my mesh.. (unless falloff is 0%) and why doesnt carve work the way it does in the jarvis vimeo videos.. (attached pics and comparisons) notice how my carve is all flat at the peak and Jarvis carves are rounded.. how do i change my peaks from being flat to rounded (I like flat too but waht to control it) attached image showing what happens.. - tearing happens w/ open gl and directx (cuda.. dont have non cuda installed) win xp64

Confirmed. Carve tool is tearing my object. But I never use carve tool. I think people don't use that brush very often. I think Extrude is very similiar try using extrude, or Hide/delete hidden. I think some people even wanted Andrew to delete the carve brush altogether.
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted August 16, 2009 Reputable Contributor Share Posted August 16, 2009 Andrew, is there a way to view a layout of the current hotkeys, either as a menu within the program or print them out in a text document? 3ds Max lets you do both, and I know Lightwave lets you print out a standard hotkey layout. I looked for a standard layout in the manual and couldn't find one. Thanks.

Advanced Member ShnitzelKiller Posted August 17, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 17, 2009 In the latest OSX beta, here are some bugs which haven't been fixed: 1. The shape tools are still behaving oddly, in that it only works 20% of the time. Especially the freehand lasso. Most of the time it simply vanishes, even if you see the little green circle indicating that it will close when you let go of the mouse. It doesn't. 2. Any material with cavity rendering will vanish when you aren't pressing alt, which is really weird. 3. The symmetry tool still does this: In the retopo above, it doesn't follow the plane properly... In the voxel room above, just look where the yellow dot is... As in, it's not following the symmetry plane as it should.
philnolan3d
As for the symmetry it may be that retopo symmetry is kind of faked until you're done then you go to the Retopo menu and pick Apply Symmetry, then turn off Symmetry from it's menu. Try that and see how it looks.

Advanced Member ShnitzelKiller Posted August 17, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 17, 2009 Another thing: At the right is the mat preview, and left is what it looks like on the object. See a difference? In the second one, it's actually transparent... why is that? This bug did not exist until I downloaded beta N. (O isn't out for mac yet, right?) philnolan3d
Yeah most of these problems you're posting seem to be display issues. I don't know how driver updates work for mac, but if you can get them I recommend trying that for now.
Advanced Member ShnitzelKiller Posted August 17, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 17, 2009 In the newest beta for OSX (N), you can't import meshes into the voxel room. Go to merge, select mesh, and choose anything, and it will crash. This did not happen in the official release. Does anybody have a mac machine for testing? There's so many bugs... and there's no equivalent to driver updates for mac. It's not my graphics card's fault, the bug didn't happen before I switched to this beta release. The one regarding cavities (the whole voxel disappears) did, though. But one of the things I most want fixed is the lasso tools. PLEASE MAKE THEM WORK 100%, it's SOOO aggravating to know that the shape you are tracing will most likely vanish and you have to start over. It doesn't happen with circle and rectangle or the closed spline, but with the freehand and point-defined straight line lasso tool. It would be great for cutting away pieces, but it hardly ever works. Least of all with the freehand one. EDIT: I tested cavities on a better graphics card, and when you click "render", at that instant the cavities will stop following the screen. Forever. Only fix is to quit and start again. Andrew Shpagin
Updated to 08 P Changes: - fixed: Pick from all layers failed if current layer was empty in pick point. - Instability in topo symm copy fixed - fixed: right-left arrow over split line in interface not always leads to moving split line. Looked really strange. It will be much more easy to capture split line. - 3D-Coat will open 3B and OBJ files from command line. So you can assign 3D-Coat to be default program to open that files. But on Windows 64 bit it will work corretly ONLY if UAC is turned off. - Possibility to save/load hotkeys set separately from options. - Possibility to swap Y and Z while all import export operations. It is important for Rhino users. - Export of textures simplified, I removed UV Manager from textures menu and made export things more straight. Older scheme produced many errors and impossibility to export or dit in ext editor some uv sets - Fixed disappeared symmetry plane in retopo tool when empty voxel object selected. - "hard to click twice" issue for OSX fixed merge tool improved: - negative volume is shown as semi transparent - child objects will not duplicate if object will be merged many times with "merge to separate volume" option. - "merge to separate volumes" works correctly with negative volumes - all merge options work in the same way in "On pen" mode. In so way you can draw with pen in several volumes simultaneously. - I made pitch, yaw, roll controls with jitters in pen mode in voxel merge tool. Advanced Member ShnitzelKiller Posted August 17, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 17, 2009 This problem still hasn't been fixed on OSX. I think it's because I moved the symmetry plane with tab, the little yellow thing doesn't update its position. It also seems to move in a reversed manner from however you move your brush. Flipped over two axes, that is. EDIT: Yep, it's because of tab. The little yellow dot moves as if your mouse is still where it was before you pressed tab, and when you let go, it doesn't go back to the corresponding location, but instead keeps that offset when you start brushing again. Another big problem with symmetry is that the symmetry plane will randomly snap to the side, for instance, it did that the moment I switched to the browser to edit this post, sometimes it happens when I save, and this is very annoying... I didn't do that. Every time I do the following, it will always happen: 1. Switching from retopo to voxel mode 2. Increasing the resolution of the voxel 3. Saving the file 4. Switching to another application This mesh was imported via the merge tool to the voxel room, if it helps. EDIT EDIT: The quad tool doesn't follow your mouse very well in this file. Also, the moment I switched to the browser, the symmetry plane moved again. GRRRRRRRRRR.... I would be very happy if the symmetry plane only moved when it is told to. EDIT EDIT EDIT:: All the tools seem offset. Look at the split rings tool. The blue line is the ring, and the circle is the brush... it is really difficult to position them because of this. In fact, unless you zoom in very very far, it's completely impossible to place edge loops, because no matter where you move your mouse, the loops are slid to the far edge of any ring you hover over. Advanced Member erklaerbar Posted August 17, 2009 Advanced Member Share Posted August 17, 2009 In recent versions (at least) voxel symmetry is not usable. doesnt work/crash and a plane appears from nowhere...
